How Often to Feed Chick with Wry Neck

Hey, there! I wish I had better news for you... unfortunately, the reason I poofed from this site was because my chick’s health deteriorated and my family and I decided it wasn’t fair to the chick NOT to put her down. We took her to the vet, and they recommended the same thing. It was a really...

Newly Hatched Silkie, Can’t Stand, Lays on Side

You were right. I had to put Nokhod down (I named it Chickpea, in Farsi). I kept hoping it was something simple like Wry Neck but I knew deep down it wasn’t. Its eyes were constantly closed, it kept gasping and it had no interest in food. I haven’t slept in days because I kept waking up to...

How Often to Feed Chick with Wry Neck

Ok got it, I set an alarm for every two hours and will do so through the night as well unless she’s sleeping. Will hold off on Selenium and make your suggested mixes. I have an egg yolk ready to go too. Here are some attached pictures too- I’ve put her in a towel, in a bowl (to prevent others...

How Often to Feed Chick with Wry Neck

Basically wondering if I should get up at like 3AM and 5AM -! ok got it! Is that every 2 hours through the night as well? I don’t want to wake her up and stress her out. I’ve set an alarm for every two hours she can’t do anything on her own, she flops over immediately and she can’t hold her...

How Often to Feed Chick with Wry Neck

Hello! My newly hatched baby silkie (2 days old) has wry neck. I have to help it to eat and take its vitamins, so I was wondering how often I should administer her the electrolyte+Vitamin mixture? I see sources say 2-4 times a day, but I’m not sure if this is in addition to also giving her chick...

Newly Hatched Silkie, Can’t Stand, Lays on Side

@jwehl @CindyinSD @cherrynberry Hey guys! First off thank you all for being compassionate and giving me so much advice! Just wanted to update you all on the baby’s progress- its able to hold its neck up much better now! I did research and I believe it may be wry neck. I was able to hand feed it...

Newly Hatched Silkie, Can’t Stand, Lays on Side

I do, yes! Probiotic chick feed, which is being fed to the two other chicks atm. Should I let it peck at that? Also should the yolk be raw? I was going to cook it and then mix it with water and electrolyte mix, but if raw is better I will do that instead tomorrow.

Ok thank you both! I’ll switch to that then. I read someone else on here using Gatorade so I used it, but best to not risk anything. I purchased some Save-A-Chick electrolytes and vitamin supplements which will arrive tomorrow.

Newly Hatched Silkie, Can’t Stand, Lays on Side

No 😔 , unfortunately it is unable to really do much on its own. But its wings and legs are kicking and flapping away. Just topples on its side. My syringe is arriving tomorrow, but for the time being should I be hand feeding it? It seemed really uninterested in the egg yolk when I was just...

Ok so cup it is. Do you have any advice for how often I should give it some gatorade and when I should give it an egg yolk to eat?

Our other chick has splayed legs as well- its doing really well bandaged up. This one did too, so its bandaged up in the cup but unlike its sibling, cant even stand for a second. Just immediately ends up laying on its side.

Yes, it just topples over to the side but its legs are VERY strong and active. Constantly moves its little legs.

Newly Hatched Silkie, Can’t Stand, Lays on Side

Hello! I’m a new chicken mom, and I we had two successful hatches. Alas, the third had a dried membrane and ended up being somewhat of an assisted hatch (it pushed itself out at the end but we had to wet the membrane). For the first two hours it was able to waddle around properly and then it was...

New Hatched Silkie Laying on Back

Thank you so much! I will definitely make a post there right now. My hopes are up, giving the amount of energy it has.. its little legs kicked my hand away a bunch of times as I tried to put it inside the cup.
