    Chronically Broody Hen

A high protein feed or some feather fixer feed can help with growing back feathers. But if she's broody she won't be in taking enough to grow them back quickly. How many hens do you have? Is he the rooster's favorite? She could also be being pecked by the other hens if she's in and out of...

    Are My Chickens DUMB?

X2 in getting out there around dusk. Also because of their horrible night vision they may not be able to see the coop or it's just too dark and scary. Do you have a light in the coop? Leaving it on around dusk will encourage them to go in when it gets dark out.

    White leghorn egg laying questions

I always hatch in the spring, then deworm the following fall when they have reached adult weight. I also use Valbazen for the first deworming, then a rotation of Safeguard and Valbazen every six months.

    Gender ideas?

Hi all, looking for some input on what gender you think these guys are. They hatched from eggs I purchased on ebay and are 11 weeks old. So far no crowing, but the bird labeled number one is redder in the face and comb. Sorry for the poor pic quality, I only had my phone! 1. 2. 3.

    White leghorn egg laying questions

My last batch started around 16-17 weeks. Once they start be ready for tons of eggs! Besides bright red combs mine always get super vocal and agitated (I call it chicken PMS). Some pullets will submissive squat when you put your hand on their back, though none of my leghorns ever did.

    Hen pasting up?

Probiotics can help with poop issues. I'd keep her quarantined for at least two more weeks to both monitor any egg laying and health issues and keep your existing flock safe.

    Bored chickens

I think a much better investment is constructing a run. Access to an outdoor space will entertain much better than anything you put in a coop to "play" with.

Plymouth Rock hen won't get out of laying box!!!???

Sounds like you have a broody on your hands. You shooing her out last fall may have been enough to break her. I find this true of a lot of my first time broodies as well. You'll need to decide whether to break her or let her hatch chicks.

    Best Hatchery for Started Pullets??

I've purchased juvenile golden buffs from Meyer. Quality was fine, though shipping charges are what will get you. They were debeaked (debeaked and trimmed beaks are the same thing). I ordered from Meyer as I have been happy with past chick orders (they're also the closest mail order to me...

    Should I be concerned?

How many hens do you have?

Any idea what color she might turn out?

Very cute! Her eyeliner makes her look like Cleopatra! She looks similar to my Columbian Wyandotte as a chick, who is now white with black neck feathers. Except yours definitely has more gray than yellow/white.

    coop and free range?

That is very roomy, over twice the 4 sq ft recommendation. They will be very happy!

HILARIOUS / ODD chick behaviors anyone ??

It's so funny when they sleep on their side that way! My love BASE jumping off their heat plate. The 3 day olds just figured it out this morning and are having a blast!
