    Does this look like bumblefoot?

Thank you so much for looking at my photos! I'm grateful for your response. So, I'll soak her foot again in Epsom salts tomorrow. I've seen the tillys nest link as it is often cited, but I've never had bumblefoot in any of my hens before. Appreciated!

    Does this look like bumblefoot?

I was giving my 4-year old Barred Plymouth Rock a butt bath after several days of very rainy weather and noticed these lumps on her feet. She has had no issues with walking – no limping, etc., so I hadn’t noticed them. She eats, drinks, poops, forages, and lays normally. She squats to have me...

Chicks of different ages in brooder?

Chicks of different ages in brooder?

I ordered 4 chicks from our local feed store. I found out today that 2 of them would have to come early in mid-March, while the other 2 will arrive April 6. I know it takes time for pullets to be introduced to our other 4 full-grown hens, but when we get the 2 chicks in April, can they be placed...

3 1/2 Year-Old Light Brahma Suddenly Stumbling While Walking

So, I'm giving an update on my Light Brahma hen who is still separated from our flock, but we take her out each day to see the others, keeping them separated with a mesh fence. The vet we took her to a couple of weeks ago (not an avian expert) prescribed anti-inflammatory medicine Meloxicam...

3 1/2 Year-Old Light Brahma Suddenly Stumbling While Walking

It's very strange. Except for stumbling when she walks, she is alert, eating, drinking, pooping normally. Her comb is bright red and eyes clear. How one morning she could wake up not being able to stay up on her feet seems so odd. The vet checked her over thoroughly - no sign of injuries from...

Thanks very much! I'll give her the B-Complex, which I have already, and get the Vitamin E today. Much appreciated.

3 1/2 Year-Old Light Brahma Suddenly Stumbling While Walking

Thanks for responding! Though the other 4 hens are almost through with their molting, the Brahma only lost a few feathers here and there - nothing at all like the others. Is it possible she could still be about to molt? Her last egg was over a month ago, and none of them have laid within the...

3 1/2 Year-Old Light Brahma Suddenly Stumbling While Walking

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I am bringing her out with the others on the other side of a mesh fence so they see each other for a few hours each day. But, as you say, today when she stumbled, three of them went after her in attack mode, so I took a walk with her in my arms. I'm so...

3 1/2 Year-Old Light Brahma Suddenly Stumbling While Walking

Thank you so much for responding. The other 4 are almost through with their molting, but the Brahma has maybe lost a few feathers - nothing noticeable. Maybe she's still going to molt now? The hens all get Rooster Booster (vitamins plus electrolytes) in one waterer and plain fresh water in the...

3 1/2 Year-Old Light Brahma Suddenly Stumbling While Walking

I just returned from the vet with my 3 1/2 year-old Light Brahma who very suddenly began stumbling as she walked outside in the grass. Our flock of five has been molting, though this one has lost few feathers. The flock also appears to be rearranging their pecking order. The Brahma was high in...

    My Little Buffy Died Today

So sorry for your sudden loss. I've only lost one hen to egg yolk peritonitis 1 1/2 years ago. She was 2 years old and died in my arms. Our chickens certainly all have their unique personalities, don't they? My Light Brahma was the sweetest and most docile. I still miss her.

    Broken eggs, thin shelled

Thanks for the response. I've been giving ACV in one waterer for the past several months since a couple of the hens were getting what appeared to be vent gleet. Took them to the vet and she suggested giving the ACV water in one waterer while the other is plain water. Since the ACV the vent gleet...
