Necropsy Pic - What do YOU see?

We culled our first and most beloved hen, "Goldie", today. After performing the emotionally difficult task (a first for us), we also performed a very rudimentary necropsy (another first for us)...and are hoping to learn something from Goldie's death. Anyway, this is what we found inside of...

Heating a plastic bucket nipple waterer ?

I'm totally jealous of the great many success stories in this thread regarding winterized bucket/watering nipple systems. I have not been as fortunate... I am currently using a 3.5 gallon hen hydrator with 4 nipples: In it I have a 250 watt de-icer: ...and while the de-icer keeps the...

Baby Chick - Deformed Feet ???

Never mind. I just did some research and see that it is normal for the Salmon Favorolle breed to have extra toes. Sorry. This is my first...I'm still learning.

Is our Rozz actually a Fozz? (Blue Ameraucana hen or roo?)

He IS very handsome!...with a lovely crow. I really wish we could keep him. Unfortunately, Craig's list here he comes. Anybody able to advise as to what a fair asking price would be for this guy? Also, have I any place to go back to the breeder and ask for a refund?

Is our Rozz actually a Fozz? (Blue Ameraucana hen or roo?)

Okay my fellow chicken lovin' friends. The question is whether our Blue Ameraucana chicken should keep her name, Rozz, because she is indeed a hen...OR if his name should be changed to Fozz, because he is actually a roo. The details are as follows: hatch date 4/18/2014 purchased as a...

    From Ohio

Farm living is the life for me as well. So yeah, I'm entirely jealous of you. I've been obsessively looking at houses with 10+ acres online, but there's no way we're moving any time soon. Our almost 10 year old daughter has been really wanting a goat, our almost 8 year old son would like a...

    From Ohio

Per North Olmsted city ordinance residents living on less than 1 acre of land may have up to 10 hens, but no roosters - yay urban farming! So far we have 1 bee hive and our limit of 10 hens...and we're itching to grow. Ha!
