That is kinda what I thought, but I wouldn't have thought 40% humidity would do that. Maybe the hygrometer is giving false reading as you suggested. Hygrometer on this batch is around 30% and I'm going to try this dry incubation method.
I have a genesis 1588 with a turner. I set it up and placed 10 turkey eggs, 11 guinea eggs and 3 duck eggs in it. Humidity at 40% and temp setting dead on 100.5 degrees. One week later I placed a dozen leghorn eggs and 6 banty eggs in it for the 21 remaining days. I removed all the turkey eggs...
I read the dry incubation thread somewhere on here and my question is, if you are keeping the room humidity at 50% should you be concerned with the humidity of the incubator at all? Even if it drops to less than 30%. The article I read said put eggs in incubator once the room humidity reaches...
I have one of the pro ketch-all/tin cats and have been very pleased with the results. I usually sprinkle a little cracked corn in there but not sure it would be necessary. I have caught as many as 10 in one night when I first got it, it has slacked to one or two. What is this zapper trap? Do you...
I posted this in another thread but think this is where it belongs. My question is, I need some ideas on building nesting boxes/houses over water for mallard ducks. Should it be floating or fixed position with a post. This is my attempt at raise ducks. I have aprox 1/2 acre pond with very...
I need some ideas on building nesting boxes/houses over water for mallard ducks. Should it be floating or fixed position with a post. This is my attempt at raise ducks. I have aprox 1/2 acre pond with very little cover around the pond. I have found one nest on the levy next to a very small...
I have a turkey gobbler that has had a swollen face for about 3 weeks. He walks around looking up. The swelling is between his eyes and beak. I caught him to check it out and noticed he has clear drainage coming from his eyes and inside his mouth when I squeezed on it a little. He sneezed twice...
Tree rat, are you referring to a squirrell? I have called them that before but you sound as if you really have tree rats. Is there another tree rat other than a squirrell. Squirrells don't bother chickens, but they will clean out the feeder.
How old is the hen laying the thin shelled watery eggs? I read that the older the hen gets the shells become thin and the egg whites become thin and watery. The mold maybe because of this I don't know. May check temperature of refrigerator. These eggs with less protection may need cooler...
My chickens are on free choice 16% layer pellets, have access to oyster shell freely along with crushed granite for grit. I give them about 1 cup of chicken scratch once in the morning and again around 4pm. There are 28 pullets and two roosters, half of wich are laying and the other half could...
