The Breakfast Box
We own 3 acres and have dreamed of being farmers, so we started out a couple of years ago with a vegetable garden (which has grown in size every year). Since we don't have a whole lot of land I talked to my husband about getting some chickens for eggs...His response, "No way...
Crazy thing happened yesterday. I was in looking at the garden checking to see how everything was doing. See a couple of spots where I thought my husband piled some dirt at the bottom of the fence to keep rabbits from getting in the garden. Husband gets home, checks on garden.... I'm in house...
I have a Brahma chick (6-8 wks) and one of my other chicks (GLW) keeps pecking the feathers on her feet until they bleed . Do you have any suggestions to stop this? I currently have her feet/toes wrapped to stop the pecking.

You should already be able to tell. They start showing subtle differences around 2 weeks old, by 3 weeks those differences are pretty obvious in, I'd say, 99% of cases. Every once in a while one will slip through a late bloomer but by 5-8 weeks even the late bloomers are usually pretty...

My husband keeps telling me he wants to get a rooster (he is wanting something male around...got 2 daughters, me, and 2 female dogs along with 9, hopefully, female chicks!). We're still waiting for our chicks to grow to see if we already have one.
