Olive Egger and Silkie gender identification

That's a great catch! I think it's his/her other foot talon, but I had to scroll in close to look!

Olive Egger and Silkie gender identification

Thank y'all for your educated guesses! I looked for spur buds, but didn't see any on the OE. Here are some more pics (he/she always wanted to face me, so I cousln't get better booty feather pics or back of legs)

Olive Egger and Silkie gender identification

Hey y'all! I have an olive egger and silkie who I can't tell for the life of me if I have pullets, roos, or one of each. Sorry for the bad OE pic, I can try and take another once the sun gets in a good spot. Both are a little over four months old.

    Sneezing Chickens?

Hey y'all, I'm back to ask for advice. I found my runt silkie dead this morning. 😭 I observed my chickens, and only saw one that was sneezing (Ayam Cemani), so it's isolated in a laundry basket in my sunroom. It's chirping now. I don't want it to be in distress. 1) How do I calm the chicken...

    Sneezing Chickens?

thank you both. Eggcessive, it was right after I fed them and had poured the feed into their trough. I had walked back with their waterer when I noticed it. Maybe the dust got kicked up from the feed?

    Boy or girl?

Thank you both for your wisdom! Fluster Cluck Acres, thank you for the culling information. I was wondering if I should keep them a bit longer before culling, and yoy answered my question! I attached another picture of the chickens because I think it gives a good side profile of the...

    Sneezing Chickens?

I've had them since they were mail-shipped at a day old. They're six weeks now. I don't immediately have a picture of my brooder, but I can find one online. I put a layer of thick brown cardstock (two pieces deep) and about 3-4 inches of pine woodchips. I'll gladly take a pic of the setup...

    Boy or girl?

Hey y'all, I have a few chickens who are eight weeks today. Barnyard mix. I'm trying to figure out boys/girls so that I can cull the roos for meat (sad, but city doesn't allow them). My assumption is that my white painted chicken is a pullet and that the rest are roos. Getting pics of their...

    Sneezing Chickens?

Hey y'all, I'm located in the mid southern US. Our temps have been at an average of 50-34 degrees. I've been trying to keep my chickens dry, and I have a tarp over my brooder right now to keep the chickens dry (I have about 10 who are six weeks old). However, I think I've had some water seeping...

    Chick smothered by waterer

Hello everyone!! This tale has a happy ending. :wee I did end up using a blow dryer (above the chick and across the blanket, not directly on it to make sure it didn't get chilled), fed it some soft mash from a syringe, and stuck it back in the brooder last night. Chick is all fluffy again...

    Chick smothered by waterer

A member of my family tried to help give water to my chicks while I was napping. Unfortunately, one of the chicks got totally caught under my water dispenser, and the person was unaware. I didn't realize it until I went to go clean out the brooder a few hours later. I'm devastated, but am doing...

    Lethargic Chick

Good morning, y'all, I recently received mail order chicks this morning. Most are doing well, but I had two not doing so well. I fed both sugar water with a dropper and stuck them in my incubator for isolation/warmth. One chick has perked up and looks like it will make it. The other was on...

    Introduction of Different Flocks

Hey y'all! I'm in a bit of a chicken math pickle. I incubated and hatched four chicks from some barnyard eggs I received from a friend. They are two weeks old to the day today. Additionally, I ordered a dozen online chicks to ensure that if anything mortal happened to some of my hatchlings...

    Mystery Chicks

She got her original flock from Tractor Supply, and she can't remember what breeds she picked. All are kept on the same plot of land. My assumption is that they're all mixed breeds or crosses, but all have purebred parents.

    Mystery Chicks

Hello Chicken Fanatics! I have a small group of chickens that I hatched from some barnyard eggs my friend had (she has 6 pullets and two roos). Her girls were at the end of their laying years, so I was excited some hatched! However, I have no idea what breed they could be. Any guesses...
