I hatched out a black Whiting True Blue 3 weeks ago that clearly had the slow feathering gene and it did not affect their down length at all.
My clubbed chick is a fully feathered mini hen now. No more bald patches.
I’ve been using things I have on hand… a large appliance box, a tack trunk with top replaced with screening, and now a tent. Tents are cheap, much larger than totes and well ventilated. I’m very happy with this one! It’s a pop up model so very sturdy even though it isn’t staked down.

This is what I do! I have Wiz smart bulbs in the room with the brooder and I put them on the 30 minute sunset dimmer mode they tuck themselves in.
One night I had the lights off but there are windows in there and the sun set around 6. I usually turn the lights off at 8 or 9. They were not...
Did you make it? I was thinking the new internal style filters would make for an easy fountain build. They draw from the bottom and create the same waterfall.

I just put my 2 week old chicks in a tent! It has great ventilation and they can’t hop out. I had to teach them to use a brooder plate but they figured it out.
I was going to use a typical pole style tent I’ve had for 20 years but I had this pop up tent I got for the kids and it’s too small...
Vertical nipples don’t have a spring. Touch them with any pressure and they will drip down freely into the chicks beak. Horizontal nipples have a spring to keep tension and it can be very stiff. They also aren’t attached above eye level so they don’t run down into the beak.
I showed the bottle...
She’s doing great! Her size and feather development is on par with her siblings. Look at that tail 😂 She gets cold faster though. I took them outside to peck around for a 15 minutes or so and she got cold and snuggled under my chin for half of it. 16 days old.
