She started feeling pretty bad yesterday, mostly sitting or standing with eyes closed. Not getting up to drink, but can stand on her own, so I've been bringing her water and torpedo feeding. Her urates are quite yellow with smooth green solids.
Val's urates are also getting lighter yellow and...
Her legs have always been corn yellow. her skin does have a yellow tint, but not as bad as I've seen others here. I'll keep on the thistle.
I was more concerned about the redness and largeness of her under-vent area. It's not impacting her walking, It has no sores or baldness, just feathers...
Gave round 2 to all 3 girls and gave Goldie a bath (mild/warm water, not hot). They had a little pumpkin yesterday for breakfast and it got some things moving in her and she ended ip needing a bath.
Goldie also has yellow urates, but is acting quite normal and generally energetic, but has not...
Update: I have given Val, Bui, and Goldie, each 1/3 of a 250mg capsule of Milk Thistle, which I will do 3x a day, and a whole capsule of the Alpha, which I will do once a day. Both powders well-mixed into wet mash and torpedoed (or just hand fed to B and G).
They will just be getting their...
Ok, I do now think there could be liver problems. Val has yellow urates and looks like she could be getting jaundiced (yellow eyelids and earlobes). Bui is not jaundiced, but does have yellow urates.
The two birds that eat the most (a Whiting True Blue and a Blue Andalusian) do not have...
The brown thing is a field pea, it was there and she pooped on it (which I did note poorly in a long aside in the original post).
She's fine so far this morning, I went to check on her and she's preening herself and scratching looking for food. Eyes look fine, area around eyes look fine, crop...
Ok, so my other sick chicken (Buitre, White Faced Black Spanish, 8 mo, 4lbs) is not improving since I noticed her and separated her. She was normal yesterday and (as far as I remember) this morning when I fed them.
So far, I gave her a dose of Poultry Cell (previously mentioned), torpedo fed...
Was able to get a good look last night. She does look like she's getting some pin feathers, but not very many yet. She's not pulling her own feathers or being picked by others, so it might "just" be her first molt!
I've got another chicken with pin feathers, sleeping standing up (not puffed...
Still hanging in there, in good spirits but losing feathers and continued poor appetite. what can I do to help her? Her crop empties well. I've been torpedo feeding their usual Purina Flock Raiser (mushy) and plan to do that more frequently.
How quickly should I expect improvement in appetite...
All birds dosed and Val torpedo fed. She had some food in her crop but not much compared to when she's feeling good.
Had a variety of poops from the birds, some very healthy looking and some looser, none with obvious worms or blood.
Holding steady so far, crop emptied overnight and she has a little food in it now (no one seems to have crop issues right now). If you weren't aware that she stopped laying eggs and wasn't eating much, she looks and acts basically normal (which was the same with Quail until she got really bad)...
Val's not having trouble breathing (yet?). None of my others are either.
I went on PoultryDVM, roundworms sound like they match Quail's symptoms almost to a T. I can get the Safe-Guard and Corid locally tomorrow and just get everybody squqred away so I don't have to play whack-a-mole.
Thank...
