@AngelAnela -- Yes, Angel, God is so good! I grew up on a farm and my folks were poor too -- yet the animals were always life-savers. Folks tried raising the larger animals like sheep, goats, cows, even a horse for pulling the plow -- but they didn't keep them long -- fences have always been...
We never planted cassava but we do plant tomatoes every year -- which our research showed that tomato leaves, vines, tomato skins and seeds are toxic (not poisonous) for human, animal, bird, or insect consumption -- only pests like aphids or tomato worms love tomatoes -- but all other life seems...
@mg15 -- I have seen other posts about scabbing on hens too. I will ad pictures.

mg, what CAUSED the scabbing? Something new I haven't heard of in chickens?
I had an NPIP Silkie breeder who called her birds "chicks" 'til they were 6 months old! We call our youngest birds in the flock "chicks" all the time even if they're 2 or 3 years old -- if they are the youngest then they're always "chicks" to us! :D
Birds are the cutest, funniest, weirdest critters on this planet! Parrots, parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, keets, peacocks, crows, hawks, sparrows, doves, pigeons, swans, and ALL wild birds -- each one a quirky personality. Had a hummingbird one year that flew to...
Deer fencing separates our small backyard patio/garden from the chicken side of the yard. The pop-up canopies are setup on the chicken side while the people side has patio roofs.
During young vegetable growing season our chickens (only 6) are kept out of the raised garden beds. We use bird...
Not only do they scare us laying on their side w/wing out looking dead, we have a Silkie that accentuates the dead posture by also sticking her leg up in the air at the same time!!!
Can't capture a pic cuz she comes running to us as soon as she sees us moving!!!
TY for the follow. I'm old :old but feel free to converse. I was raised a farm girl but after retirement DH & I have had backyard chickens for 13 yrs so far -- some lived long, some died young, a couple were re-homed, but never lost one to predators yet -- we've cycled thru over 2 dozen...
SILKIE BROODER
THIS IS WHAT WE FOUND WHEN WE GOT HOME -- HOW'D THIS DOMINIQUE GET INSIDE THE BROODER??? SHE MUST HAVE USED THE STEP STOOL & JUMPED IN???
Thank you for your response :)
Yes, the breeder in the USA has 40 acres but since they were cross-breeding Breda w/La Fleche they had to be in breeding pens and it was not very successful for fertility.
I loved when Greenfire Farms imported Blue/Black/Splash Breda but the small gene pool...
Tito is obviously a family pet and probably handled a LOT. I had a Silkie that I kept in the house til she was old enough to integrate into the flock and she was very accustomed to being dressed and undressed in her chick diaper!
