The cardboard duck trick is taping a piece of cardboard to the bottom of the foot. Because it is bigger than the foot, it's like having a little duck foot and no toes lol
6 toes on the left foot. 2 of them as close together, and just barely split. There are 2 separate nails. And then another little one in between, where I drew an arrow at. It also has a nail. And then of course the regular 3. The other foot has the normal 5 toes.
Picked up more silkies today 😆 (side note: if you're local to me, TSC still has at least 6 more silkies. I'm guessing on the low end, probably more)
This one has 11 toes. But also, on the foot with 5 toes, that one curls under. S/he walks fine for now, but I know it isn't good to stay that way...
Just another update. This is #3. Who has been named Fluffster 🤷♀️ And it is keeping me confused. At the beginning, color and wings said pullet. Then 2 weeks ago, we all guessed cockerel.
But then tonight, I witnessed my bantam cochin rooster try to mount #3 😳😆 Fluffster did like all the other...
They cantbdecide if they are scared of us or not. My 14 year old can scoop them up with no problem, and they just chill with her. But they run from me 😆
Meet Mufasa. She was hatched inside a diaper box in my garage.
I had a broody hen, who set and hatched a clutch. At some point, another hen laid an egg in her nest and I didn't realize it. When broody was done hatching, one egg showed signs of life. But I had no idea how far along it was. I...
I was leaning towards that. So funny how in the beginning so many were convinced 3 was a pullet based on color. (FB groups)
I'm okay with 3 being a rooster.
This baby is roughly 6 weeks old, and I still can not identify the breed.
She is all black. Clean legs. Bantam. I have 2 other polish same age, but they are bigger and have bigger top knots.
Yes! They are about 6 weeks old now. Here is an updated photo of 2 and 3. These are the ones I suspected were pullets. A raccoon took the one I thought was a cockerel.
#3 is being questioned. There is a brighter comb than the other, but no other visible signs of a rooster yet. S/he is not pure...
I had thought about that as well. But after playing around on Google for a bit, I came across several others who had babies with coloring like #2, and turned out to be a pullet.
Time will tell. But I'm really hoping I'm correct on my guessing. I plan to keep this thread updated with pictures...
I realize technically it is way too early to know the gender of these babies. But, if we were guessing based on wing feathers, would 1 be a cockerel and 2 and 3 pullets?
They are approximately 5 days old. I realize that in salmon faverolle the males typically have the black, while females do...
