    I understand what you mean, I'm currently looking into buying diamond doves for my aviary as I think they are amazing. I don't really know much about doves and thier homing ability but live in an area with many Barbary doves flying about and I think they are amazing.

    I can't help but from what i've seen others say there are three options 1) Get him to the vets 2) Put him down 3) cut feathers around the abscess' and DIY operation if possible - I don't know if its possible but if it is someone will be around in the next 24hrs to tell you it is and how to do it.

    Normally they hatch in pairs and so keep each other warm but as a single chick in winter it must have been freezing.

    Any updates. I am currently researching and may give my pigeons pheasant eggs to hatch instead of dud ones to keep the pigeon numbers down.
