Welcome to the forum. This is the only site you'll need for all your chicken questions and comments. I got three production browns from asagi. One has recently died from unknown reasons, but the other two look super healthy and still give me an egg a day. I'm a little concerned about eating...
I've gotten three eggs since the "shell less" one. I've held the eggs out to the hens and no one seems very interested in them. I will try to pick them up the next time they do that...not that I know what they are doing. The stomping of the feet kind of threw me off (read: scared me).
I guess everyone who thought that the chickens were ready for love (ready to mate and lay) were right. I got my first egg the other day from the chicken that was shrugging. Then one of the other chickens started shrugging, and low and behold, I've got two laying chickens now. I get two eggs...
Having never had chickens before, it kind of startled me. I was, I'm kind of embarrassed to say, scared that the chicken was going to "attack" me. I keep hearing about a hen turning into (taking on) a rooster's role, if there are no roosters in the flock. The more I think about it, the hen...
I just found this thread because my hen has just started doing this. She kind of raises her wings -- it really does look like she's shrugging her shoulders. Then this morning I think I heard her stamping her feet. And she is kind of squatting. Before I found this thread, I was looking up...
Thanks for all the help. What are the other signs/symptoms of the worms? When you worm your birds, is it preventative or because they are displays some kind of indication of worms?I just want to make sure because I don't want to medicate the birds if I don't have to. The quails are raised on...
Would I be able to see the worms in the poop? Worms has crossed my mind as a possible reason for the watery poop. Are the eggs still safe to eat, if the quails have worms? When I am worming them, do I have to stop eating the eggs? What do you use to worm the quail? I have had all three...
Can someone please help me with this problem. I have one coturnix that appears to be tibetan-colored and two regular brown-colored. The tibetan has no problems and actually laid a double-yolker the other day. The two brown (pharaoh) one have some wet, wet poops. I don't know what the problem...
Just got back from Land O'Lakes in "Kapolei". First thing, this place is not Kapolei. I don't think it could be further into Campbell industrial. In fact, it was the last road at the end of Kalaeloa. But, I was able to order my gamebird starter that will come in within three weeks. I am not...
Thank you. I kind of move the coop back and forth. I let the weeds and other greens come up in one area and then move the coop back (or forward) over the greens.
Thanks for the suggestion. But man, I'm already going to be coming from Hawaii Kai. Can you send me any further!?! I am willing to drive for a good deal, but.... I think next someone will send me to Wailua (which I also heard has a really good feed store). We should start keeping a list of...
So far the only way I know they are hens, is because they haven't started crowing yet. I'm in the same boat as you. If they do start crowing, then it's bye bye to them. It's going to be hard because they really are like pets now. But, to be honest I think they will turn out to be hens and...
