HIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!
I'm talkinboutchickens! And you guessed it, I LOVE to talk about chickens...After all, that's why I'm on here lol!!
I first started off with chickens in May of 2020 with 8 chicks...And ya know chicken math...Our flock will be twice that size this year once we get a few more!!
Right now, I have:
3 sapphire gems- Ledo and Gert, turning 3, and Opal, turning 2.
1 white rock, Rose, 4 yrs old
1 barred rock, Prudence, turning 2
1 black sexlink, Winnie, turning 5
1 black australorp, Phyllis, turning 5
1 easter egger, Florence, turning 5
1 olive egger, Benny, 4 yrs old
2 mixes, Bear and Lil' Debbie, turning 2
1 light brahma, Dottie, turning 3
1 brown leghorn chick, Myrtle
1 silver-laced wyandotte chick, Dan
1 ISA brown chick, Mabel
1 barred rock chick (that we found in the middle of the road), Aretha
And rest in peace to the chick that my hens left in the nesting box, the chick that drowned, the chick that never absorbed it's yolk sac, and all the chick embryos that never made it And also any chickens that got eaten or otherwise died that I auctioned off. Includes Dumpling the nasty OE roo who was probably invited to dinner when we gave him to our neighbor
We've let our hens hatch chicks 2 different times! Phyllis and Rose are the best moms, and Dottie just experienced being a mom for the first time last year. Additionally, last year I hatched chicks in my incubator.
As other hobbies I do archery and volunteer at my humane society.
I'm also working on planting a pollinator garden specifically for monarch butterflies. That said I also love to care for monarch caterpillars!
In the future, I would love to have a large, free-range chicken hatchery with many different breeds, common and rare, to bring joy to people and hopefully spread awareness to more rare breeds.
My dream breeds include:
Vorwerks
Lakenvelders
Indio Gigante
Owlbeards
And more! I also hope to create my own bantam cochin sexlink!
I am always learning about chickens and will never know everything there is! I try to have an open mind about learning new things. I don't know everything about chickens, but when someone needs help I give them advice to the best of my knowledge. Therefore, if it ever seems to be where I give out incorrect information accidentally, please correct me (kindly) because that is how I learn and how I am able to educate people more accurately in the future!
