They aren't purebred silkies, they're silked EEs, so not many breed standard traits 😂 I was lucky two of my girls had beautiful full crests, walnut combs, and beards, but the third has a straight comb and wattles.
Egg from one of our silked EE girls on the right, next to our OEGB's egg. Still waiting for the other two to lay but one of them has been sporting a larger comb and wattles in the last few days 🤞
Name: Oreo
Breed: Japanese Bantam
Age: 5 months
Extra Info: Oreo is the sweetest, most hard-working little guy. He alerts the girls and I to anything new or scary, always lets the girls eat treats first (and calls them over if they don't see it!), and comes and gets me so I can put them to bed...
Most likely! I wish I had a frizzled cochin or blue silkie to cross my partridge girl to, but I'm mainly just looking to add more pullets next year so I'm fine with seeing what comes of my current guy and gals 😊
My roo is also a great boy so would love to keep a son of his around!
I ordered 3 silked easter egger pullet chicks from MPC in April and so far they've been happy and healthy! They still appear to be pullets but they have yet to lay at ~20 weeks, will update when they do 😊
MPC does charge quite a bit more than other hatcheries but I found it worthwhile since...
Aww thank you! Her plumage really shines on the warm sunny days, I can't stop taking pics of her 🤣 our roo is also quite the handsome devil, curious what their pairing would look like!
No, unfortunately she either has a skeletal deformity or we didn't do a good job of hobbling her. She essentially limps everywhere and spends a good chunk of time laying down.
I talked to the vet about euthanizing her, but his comment was if she's not getting bullied and seems to be...
My 2.5 month-old OEG bantam cockerel has started mounting one of my other as-of-yet indeterminate sex chicks and appears to be attempting to mate. He grabs the back of the chick's neck and everything.
Is this a sign that my poor assault victim is a pullet? Or is this a roo dominating another...
Omg I'm so glad I found this thread, I wasn't sure if I was the only one! I've been watching my 2 month-old cockerel mount and try to mate one of my pullets for the last couple od weeks and was worried 😂
