we get TONS of ladybugs here too
They're attracted to light colored buildings and they like to swarm. We get hundreds of them in the house every Spring...
I put em back outside!
My guinea hens didn't bother the Ladybugs, ticks yes but I don't remember them eating Ladybugs :)
LOL! I have no problems with this issue - I raised Guinea Hens on my dining room table till they could go outside and we breed/show guinea pigs so I have plenty of cage space even for big chickens till they can go outside too!
Tons of great info gang - thank you so very much! I will be...
the Purina coop is very much like what we were designing and those plans make things even easier thank you
a couple small tweaks because of my height and I think we'll be good to go
I notice a lot of coops have roosts that are just straight boards - I know when I've had exotic birds branches...
PDZ is a stall "freshener" sold at most feed stores.
Tractor Supply carries it I know for sure
It's a powder that you put down under bedding/shavings that helps keep the smell down, You can find it online too by searching PDZ. It works well for most animals including kitty litter boxes btw!
and...
you guys are awesome thank you
it's little things that I wouldn't know not ever owning chickens before (or maybe being owned by chickens???)
There are some things I see that would carry over from our experience with raising guinea pigs -
guinea pigs are truly sometimes pigs when it comes to feed...
oh no! I am so very sorry =(
I've know people who lost their entire barns of rabbits and guinea pigs because of electrical problems. I can't imagine how horrible that would be.
fill in the blank please...
what one thing do you wish you had/did differently/learned by trial and error with your first coop if you had to do it all again?
I've been reading and reading and researching and reading and honestly it's very overwhelming.
We're getting ready to build our first...
Central NJ...I put it in there :)
not so worried about predators - the yard is pretty secure. Hawks and owls I would worry about!
snow isn't frequent and we know it's coming...
gotta keep thinking on this and figure out a way to make it work I think
glad I found this thread!
We're plotting and planning our foray in to chickens this year finally (FINALLY convinced the hubby it would be fun!!)
Originally I was looking at buying a coop till the guys at work yelled at me...
so now they're building me one!
And we're planning on putting it inside...
when we get a shipment of chicks at TSC the box is marked with variety and count. If Mt Healthy sent chicks that weren't TTs in a box marked for TTs then there is a problem at Mt Healthy ant TSC corporate NEEDS to know about it
