Ypsilanti Township Ordinance to Allow Chickens

I'm in. We had to give up our girls a few years back when the neighbors and township came after us. My girls weren't even free range girls!!!

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

WOW guys, this is EXACTLY what I am going through right now in Ypsilanti Township. I have another thread here, but my update is basically this: After receiving my notice from the Homeowners Association, we politly responded that per their rules we were "keeping caged birds" and had a right to...

Ypsilanti Twp - MI / Association requesting we remove... Please read

I know that the breeds I have are considered "larger" in terms of chickens, but not when looking at "birds" overall as a species. That's where I would try to make the arguement. The bylaws don't stipulate anything beyond "caged-domesticated-small-bird". Our "caged domesticated birds" are...

Ypsilanti Twp - MI / Association requesting we remove... Please read

See that's just it. We live in Ypsilanti Township - They do not have an ordinance prohibiting chickens. Nothing about keeping them either really, but I would guess that is because they have been a rural area for a LONG time... The City of Ypsilanti (under a different set of ordinances) is...

Ypsilanti Twp - MI / Association requesting we remove... Please read

Quote: - It's a stretch to think my girls are small by any means. "Small" in any circumstance if undefined is really in the eye of the beholder. But we have 2 EE, 1 RIR, and 1 BO. - I just didn't want to use the word "chicken" and wanted instead to highlight that they are in fact caged...

Ypsilanti Twp - MI / Association requesting we remove... Please read

And so it's begun... We started our backyard bird project this spring. I researched the association bylaws and township ordinences and found nothing to prevent our girls. (In fact the bylaws are likely open to interpretation as MANY of our neighbors break them in one way or another, but...

    What age to clip wings?

I will likely clip my girls wings - We like in a urban neighborhood and have already had one girl "fly" out of the run yesterday when I opened it to clean something out. They are 11-12 weeks old-ish and can obviously fly at low levels. So my question is, are they too old to clip their wings? I...

    Close up coop at night?

I guess "predator proof" becomes subjective. It has tough gauge mesh but not a true "bottom" attached. Even I have difficulty opening the hinged top - LOL... Here it is:

    Close up coop at night?

I'm a newbie and have a quick question about closing up your coop/run at night. We have a backyard coop with completely enclosed run, do I need to close the girls into the coop at night? They instinctively know to go inside, so should I or shouldn't I close the door of the coop? Thanks!

Help with 8-ish week old chicks gender... BO, RIR and EE...

Thanks I think the same about the RIR - Shim has all the characteristics they say about a cockerel... The kids love shim the most so I hope not, because the area doesn't allow for roosters! (And my neighbors wouldn't appreciate it either... *sigh*

Help with 8-ish week old chicks gender... BO, RIR and EE...

Anyone want to take a guess at the gender of these 8-ish week out chicks. (1) RIR, (1) Buf Orph and (2) Ameracaunas... Thanks all. I have my suspicions but would LOVE some input/help. We're a new backyard bird family!!! Penny is trying to get at my daughter who has some type of treat - i.e...
