SL Wyandotte over Soeckled Sussex… Any guesses on colors? Who’s into color genetics?!

Oh my goodness, I completely forgot I have one buff Orpington! 😂. So that’s definitely the other mom. I just got her last year and she wasn’t planned. My friend and I split a chick order and they gave us an extra Orpington, so I kept her. Can’t believe I forgot about Goldeen!

SL Wyandotte over Soeckled Sussex… Any guesses on colors? Who’s into color genetics?!

Yes, but none of them make sense. I have a red sex link that may have laid that egg, but I don’t think she’s laying any more. She’s 3 years old and her eggs at the end of the summer were super wonky - very thin shells, breaking in the nesting box, wrinkled, etc plus the eggs that hatched were...

SL Wyandotte over Soeckled Sussex… Any guesses on colors? Who’s into color genetics?!

Hi everyone! This is just for fun, but I’d love to hear what you think of these lil chicks and how they’ll turn out. Rooster is SL Wyandotte. Hen is Speckled Sussex and maybe a Saphire Gem? I know it was two hen’s eggs, but I can’t for the life of me figure out the second hen. Anywho, my...

Egg bound and prolapse, cut out egg, need help finishing

S’more has already started laying!! I wasn’t expecting eggs so soon, and her first one I thought was our other EE, but yesterday there were two colored eggs in the nesting box, and it was obvious which one was which. I’m so very happy her body has healed. Way to go S’more!!

Ruptured Air Sac - Subcutaneous Emphysema

Yes, I had planned to cut her today as you did yours @casportpony but I only had an exacto knife and it wasn’t sharp enough. I used the 16g needle and it was immediate! She almost completely deflated. She still sits straight on her bum, so I think there is more to her story, but as long as...

Ruptured Air Sac - Subcutaneous Emphysema

@casportpony There is a popping/crackling sound when I move the air around. I’ve already let some air out twice, using the needle, but I have to poke her in several places and sometimes no air comes out, and other times quite a bit deflates

Ruptured Air Sac - Subcutaneous Emphysema

I can get ya fresh pictures in the morning. I finally got her settled in her sling/hammock thing for the night. Her belly on one side, from just behind her wing all the way to her bum near and under her vent, are all puffed up and full of air, just not quite as big as your guy. Here’s a link...

Ruptured Air Sac - Subcutaneous Emphysema

@casportpony, did this affect your cockerel’s mobility at all? I have a young pullet (8 weeks) that has this right now. She isn’t quite as big as your guy, but is close. I have attempted to release the air using a 20g needle, and I have a 16g one,l that I was going to try next, but reading your...

Water sprayer freezing up/clogging in the morning

Oh my!!! It must be frigid there! I don’t use and attachment, just the hose. Maybe you could do that, unless you need to spray with force for something.

8 week old chick can’t stand: no balance, falls back on hocks

Thank you. She’s not out if the woods yet though. Have you seen anything like this? Does it look as though I’m on the right track? And do you have any idea how long before she fully recovers? sorry for all the questions, just looking to see if I’m on the right track!

8 week old chick can’t stand: no balance, falls back on hocks

So, she’s gaining strength in her weak leg and can move it some now. She’s getting tired of being contained for sure! But today I found out that popping sound was a ruptured air sac! She felt like a balloon! I got a 20g needle, but didn’t attach it to a syringe, inserted it and pressed gently...

8 week old chick can’t stand: no balance, falls back on hocks

She’s a cute lil thing! Anyway, the closer leg is acting “normal” and she has strength in it. When I put my hand under this leg I feel resistance and it acts normal: she’ll grab my finger with it and wrap her toes around. The other leg, which is sticking out a little further, is relatively...
