My broody's eggs were due on the 30th. 8 hatched bet
ween the 29th and 30th. She is on and off of the last 3. Is it time to give up on those last eggs?
My set up is a good sized coop with an opening at top where there are 2 nests. I was thinking of closing off the top area, which will be as easy as closing the big door and placing some of that wire mesh over the chicken sized opening to prevent chicks from falling and prevent the other hens...
I apologize in advance for the newbie question. I have my first broody hen. My aunt's fertile eggs were switched for the non fertile ones on August 9th. Should I be expecting chicks around the 30th? How many days does it take til hatching? If breed matters...hopefully not, they are easter...
My Easter Eggers! Named from Once Upon a Time characters. I am very excited today to have found Regina's first egg! The first egg I have personally gathered in 20 years
Regina, Snow, and Blue are the older Hens, and Belle and Rumpelstiltskin are the younger pullet and the roo that was hatched...
Just leave one on the vine until it is well ripened to be sure the seeds are mature. I do the same with my cukes, i take the seeds from the fruit that has grown past the point where i would have eaten it and use it for seeds.
Cut your zucchini open long ways down the center. Scoop out your middle with a spoon, and space them out to dry on a paper towel. After they dry for a few days, you might want to let them sit in the fridge for a week so they think they've over wintered.
I love working in the garden. All my other veggies did great! I need to build something to keep the tomatoes and peppers covered when the first frost comes. SW Missouri weather is a bit unpredictable. I will plant my garlic on the side of the house next year instead of in my raised garden bed...
They died early. I planted last october and the tops started dying off in the spring. I may have had them overcrowded or maybe they got too much water...I just went digging and found two fully grown, and one clove out of 24 that I planted. I will just have to try again and fix what I think the...
I think i may have lost all my garlic this year. The tops all died off way early this year one by one. I don't know if i should go digging to see if i have survivors. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to check under there. I also have a makeshift fence around each raised bed. I'm not sure if it will...
The plants are pretty overgrown right now, and my girls (possibly guys) will be only a few weeks old when i bring them home Saturday. I will have to figure a way of protecting small plants next spring though But hey, i get chickens! I'm so excited!
I have melons, cucumbers, lemon basil, peppers, squash...and plenty of bugs! I don't use pesticides. My hubby keeps his chemicals out of my garden fence. And there are plenty of cherry tomatoes that fall to the ground I wouldn't mind them cleaning up for me. I don't mind losing a couple...
I want to let my chickens free range in my garden now and then, but I have a lot of tomato plants. I know tomato plants are toxic. Will chickens leave them alone?
