Hello everyone,
Yesterday I noticed one of my Silkie hens wasn't with the flock, she is keeping herself separate and lying down quite alot, when she is on the move she is alot slower than normal. Her tail is droopy and she isn't eating much what I have read online makes me think she could be...
I have a broody sitting on 5 eggs, 2 of them have hatched 1 2 days ago and 1 yesterday which was day 20 and day 21.
(This is my first time hatching eggs) my question is how long should I leave the other eggs under the hen? I can hear anything from them but the did look ok when I candeled them...
Hello everyone,
Thanks for all your help, I'm happy to report that she was back out to her friends the day after this happened and she was was completely back to normal.
I have introduced the 3 newbie to my existing flock today after keeping them separated with wire since they arrived, so far...
One end is very squishy then the flatter end is a little more firm and it seems to have clear liquid inside, sort of like egg white consistency.
I thought it might have been something to do with moving house. She's been eating and drinking and gas settled down for the night.
I may keep her...
Hello guys,
I picked up 3 new Silkie hens at the weekend and this morning noticed one wasn't quite as alert as the other. I brought her in gave her food and water as I thought maybe she was dehydrated as they had filled their water fish with their bedding.
I have just been and checked on her...
Chicken has made it through her vet check! She's happy with the progress and thinks it's trauma rather than a disease. So possibly pecked?
Another week of baytrill and back next week so fingers crossed.
Hey hornbeam thanks for that I'll try get hold of some golden eye! The guys above have been spot on with all the medication, everything they have suggested the vet has given me.
IV only had Chickens about a year and all has been fine untill now so I'm learning all these tricks.
I'm feeling...
So IV just cleared her eye and what a massive difference! I'll keep on top of this over the weekend and hopefully we get this sorted. I have also found her eyeball which hasn't been seen since last weekend and the swelling has gone down alot so I'm guessing that a good sign. Can't thanks you...
Phew! I'm glad they can cope ok if they lose an eye, she's perfectly happy within herself, eating drinking talking to us as we come into the room and are in there (she's currently in a dog cage in my kitchen) and makes such a noise if she hears her pals outside.
I'm praying the baytrill helps...
Today we had out check up at the vets, we have now been given baytrill, the eye was pretty puss and scabbed over however since coming home she has managed to scratch the scab off and the eye now looks better than when at the vets today. We are due to do back on Tuesday and if the baytrill hasn't...
Little update - we went to the vets today as her eye was still very bad this morning and I can't get of the medication you guys suggested (maybe because I'm from the uk?) And she been giving some antibiotics and a shot of metacam for pain and inflammation so fingers crossed this helps. I'll keep...
Hopefully these photos are clear enough, she's a little quiet today but still eating and drinking. I'll get some saline solution tomorrow and see if that helps her.
I'm hoping it's just an eye infection due to the feather being stuck. IV been scouring the internet and she doesn't seem to have...
