    18 weeks old and I found an egg in their coop...

    My Buff Orpington started laying at 18 weeks - as soon as I went on vacation! My husband sent the picture of her first egg - a nice pinkish brown. It was small, but by the time I got home her eggs (and the eggs of the other three girls) were regular size and delicious. Congratulations!

    Out of my four hens, my Barred Rock is the most vocal - especially when I have treats! She is very sweet and an absolute beauty.

    I just got my babies and put them in a 18" x 30" plastic tub for a starter brooder. Started with lots of shavings for the floor and put a small food dispenser in one corner and small water dispenser in another.
