    What's your worst predator?

    Racoons for they have slaughtered 4 of our laying hens in one night. Possum have injured them, but have not a cause death. Rat snake who stole and ate our eggs in the coop. Only the last time it swolled an egg too big to get out. It was the last supper for the snake.

    Chickens for almost a year.. first massacre yesterday. :(

    What a beautiful story. Wondering if a mild insectcide would have gotten rid of the maggots in the early days. It will have to be weak enough to kill off the maggots but not to harm your hen. Soapy water may also kill maggots and rinse off good after a good soak. Just a thought...

    Hatching Pullet Eggs?

    If only you have any roosters around them. Otherwise the eggs are not properly fertilized and only good for eating. They will not hatch into baby chicks.
