    Living with a paralyzed chicken

Thank you! I’m glad as well. She made a few eggs this week and was lapping me doing yard work the other day. I just wish she had another chicken buddy to hang with. I don’t think my office zoom calls are great company for her. 🤣

She’s so pretty! I hope she gets back on both feet. :) I did have a different chicken with breathing issues. She got a nebulizer treatment from the vet which helped a lot and at home I found that her symptoms relieved a little by mixing VetRX and water at the bottom of a plastic water bottle...

How is your chicken doing? I haven’t been updating much but Marion is doing well. She laid 3 eggs then stopped again. Other than that no health issues and she’s the heaviest she’s ever been. I think she may be figuring out how to balance again now that she is a better weight. When she is outside...

    Living with a paralyzed chicken

Exciting news! Marion resumed laying eggs on New Year’s Day. It seems to take a lot out of her so I’ve been giving her a little honey in her water and she has a nice bath this morning. She’s definitely trying really hard to stay mobile.

oh yes I have grit as well and she loves sorghum seeds so I shook a bag of sorghum and grit which I’m using as scratch mixed with her feed. Thanks for the reminder!

No progress on foot use but I did get her a layer feed that is more of mixed seed instead of crumble or pullets and she’s eating it all! I’ve cut back in treats to make sure she’s filling up on feed but she’s still getting the occasional blueberry.

Yeah she was laying but stopped after getting coccidia last month. Vet said it was normal with everything going on and also ruled out egg binding.

Oh and we estimate she was born early April. She was a pullet when we got her early summer.

    Living with a paralyzed chicken

She was prescribed calcium for the vet but she then said it could have caused the leg issue and to stop giving it to her. I’m still worried it isn’t enough since she’s ignoring her crumble. I’ve given her some plain yogurt a couple times but it makes her poo messier. I do think her water...

Thank you! We do add cider vinegar to her water sometimes. I will def give her more. We also just upgraded her from the bathtub. :)

    Living with a paralyzed chicken

Her first flock all passed. She was with our new hens for a couple weeks but then got Coccidia and moved inside on 10/14 and has been separated since. The new 3 birds have had no symptoms of any illness. All birds in both flocks were vaccinated but our vet still thinks that is what it is. She...

    Living with a paralyzed chicken

She ignores carrots, pears and apples so I used blackberries and water which did peak her interest on eating some crumble but she ignored it the second time. I’m going to try some other versions or maybe Miss Picky just prefers a food rotation. 😂 Thank you!

    Living with a paralyzed chicken

I finally got a good video of how she moves around. She sort of drags her bad foot but if she is standing she’ll put weight on it. I will definitely keep you posted on the juice idea!

oh that’s brilliant! I better order some as I have pumpkin spiced cider as my only juice which is prob not ideal!

    Living with a paralyzed chicken

That’s so great to see! Glad she had you caring for her. Marion is still doing well but still moves with wings more than her legs. I see her putting a little weight on the bad leg sometimes but she seems to forget to bring it with her when she moves so does a lot of interesting spin tactics...
