We're looking for 10-15 females to restart a flock. We don't have the setup to raise tiny chicks, prefer already sexed and able to go into the coop immediately. Mixed breeds etc are fine as long as they are healthy and will lay eggs. Send me info of what you have :)
Please indicate if you can...
Hey guys! Thought it worth throwing this on here, someone on this Facebook page found a Muscovy duck that is wandering around their neighborhood (Saint Albans, Kanawha County) and seems hurt. If anyone knows the owner or would be able to help the guy, here's the link...
If you feel like you need to do a strong disinfection, bleach is fine to use. Bleach, when exposed to air and light, it breaks down to harmless salt, oxygen, and a few ions, so there are no "residues" or anything harmful left. You can dilute as you wish and spray liberally, let the building air...

I found this interesting for an explanation. Hoping someone posts some results! Would love to see a purple egg!
If it stays down, he's healing. While we may not get an absolute answer on what it is, I'm sure Alvin and his momma would like for him to heal up and be done with it!
Very true, it's definitely not going to be linked to everything. I think chickens have less issue because they don't spend as much time on it, versus, say, small animal pets that spend their entire lives with their faces inches from the shavings.
Heh, no hostility definitely never works I...
Good to know! I hadn't heard about aspen being that different from others. I'll clarify my earlier statement - softwood species (conifers/evergreens) have those harmful acids in them, while hardwood species do not.
Here's hoping you get a quick answer from the lab
Sorry I've been out of the loop, was working @ VBS all last week so had no spare time. Question - how did the fluid look when you drained it this past time... last Monday or Tuesday? More of the same puss, or something different? That can give...
You may find my research interesting [*CLICK*] but yes, they "are" dangerous, though how much so to your particular flock is way, way up in the air. It depends on the other conditions the chicks are in, how healthy they are, how much they breathe, etc. etc. Some will seem just fine with the...
The harmful stuff in the wood (abietic and plicatic acids) is in all species of softwoods in different amounts (softwoods being the group of species, not just soft wood - pine, cedar, fir, hemlock, yew, etc.) Hardwoods like aspen, birch, oak, and maple don't contain the acids. :)
That's interesting, but it seems to be an evaluation of the wood content, rather than an evaluation of the content's effects on the body. As mentioned by the National Institute of Health, the effects of abietic or plicatic acids are both time- and dose-dependent - i.e. even small doses, repeated...
It does, and I'll double check, but with the Internet I would imagine that the law is a little flexible. The Courthouse website links to Petfinder, so I'm guessing that is how they adhere to that bit of the law.
They use Petfinder and Facebook to post their listings, but the problem is that when the dogs are posted, they're up for adoption. I'll mention it to her but it's been over a month of back and forth and they've given no indication they put listings anywhere but online.
Thanks for the link...
Question for you all. This isn't chicken related and I normally don't bring this stuff to random Internet folk but we're stuck. Looking for a lawyer that knows animal law in WV. My sister's dog went missing, she notified shelter and shelter adopted her dog or anyways. From my understanding they...
