Hi again everyone, I posted a few months ago about having a few blue wheatens and didnt manage to upload any pics here is my rooster and a standard wheaten hen and I would like any critiques as I plan using him for breeding?
Yes cleaned with virkon and left in the sun for a day to dry out between hatches. My vent holes I leave un plugged. The broodies getting off the eggs does make a lot of sense and they beat most elctronic bators any day.
I had virkoned it last year before putting it back in its box for storage I did not clean it again after taking it out of storage. I will mark the air cells next time with a pencil at 7, 14, and 18 days but I am not a fan of opening and closing the bator. Could this be the reason for them not...
I talked to a local who incubates more often than I, he thinks it could be a bacteria issue. I add water to my troughs about every 3-4 days when it is getting low, could this water be getting contaminated over the 21 days. I use only distilled water.
Yes I candled a lot in the first 2 hatches, the air cells looked on par with the diagrams I have seen online. The last hatch at 40% humidity I candled less I candled day 7 to remove infertiles, and on day 14. Day 14 to me looked a bit like a day 10-12. When the chicks started to hatch i found...
Hello, I am relatively new to incubating eggs. Standard sized chicken eggs to be exact. My problem is getting them to hatch. I have 3 hatches under my belt and almost every egg that goes into lockdown that doesn't hatch has a fully developped chick that never pipped internally inside when I do...
I purchased 6 advertised wheaten eggs. Hatched out 4 of them. Now have 2 pullets and 2 cockerals that are just over 3 months. The lady I bought them from said they are suppose to be 100% wheaten when i questioned the blue feathers on 2 of them. So i have a blue wheaten pair and a wheaten pair...
I ended up with 19 chicks, could have had more but i made a few mistakes in the final few days. Humidity and temp was all over the place. Shrink rapped chicks from opening incubator to get chicks out, fan did not help either for that. Today i emptied and cleaned the bator. 7 Chicks fully formed...
Last night at 19.5 days there was no chirping or movement. Today day 20 chirping. Today day 20 at 9:00 chicks start to pip the eggs, right now there are 10 pipped out of the 28. Humidity is at 63%, I just filled the water troughs again I got water in all 4 now. Still have a rotten egg smell but...
It is now day 19.5, took them off the turner yesterday. I did not candle, I wanted to get them back in the bator as soon as possible. Humidity is ranging from 60-63% temp is at 99.5. There is a slight smell coming from the bator, not as bad as the rotten egg in the first week. Do eggs give off a...
Thanks, i Will keep it around 30 % untill lock down. The smaller air sacks are mostly the maran eggs, which i read have a thicker shell so they loose humidity slower. They look like something at about day7 to 10, when comparing to the picture on the first page of the thread.
