    Silkie Feet

Just for future reference, what does the "exuded materials" look like (color, consistency, texture, etc)? In all my research on scaly leg mites the exuded materials was only mentioned once, and not described. Thanks for your time!

    Silkie Feet

Thanks so much for your reply - I'm so glad to hear their feet look normal. I was so worried, especially because of the mild winter and tons of rain we've had. Guess I'm just a hypochondriac when it comes to my babies!

    Silkie Feet

I'm worried about the feet of my Silkies, one hen and one rooster. The rooster looks to me to have scaly leg mites, so I have been treating him with a 15 minute epsom & warm water soak followed by rubbing in waxalene. I've done this once each week for at least 3 weeks now but I don't see any...

    Broody Hen Thread!

At this point I would try letting her hatch an egg, but we can only accommodate about two more hens, and no more roosters, and I had already removed all her eggs before I knew she was broody again. I like your idea of getting a chick for her to mother (I don't care if I don't get eggs for...

    Broody Hen Thread!

So do you put her in a breaker every time she goes broody, or are you always hatching eggs?

    Broody Hen Thread!

Thanks for replying! I don't care if we don't get eggs for awhile, my only concern is for her health and happiness. It makes me sad to have to confine her for a few weeks every couple of weeks! The interesting thing is, this time around she is still pretty active. When I let her out of the...

    Broody Hen Thread!

Can someone help me? I have a Silkie hen who just turned one year old and we are in our third round of broodiness. It seems she is following a pattern: she lays a lot of eggs for two weeks then becomes broody, we break her within about two weeks, she lays for two weeks, then she becomes...

    Hello from IL

Hello! I am new to the world of chickens - my two Silkies will be one year old in April. I have one Rooster and one hen. I just survived my first broody experience. At least I think it's over - no eggs yet. We finished building our new coop just before the cold and snow hit here in...

    Broody Hen Thread!

Thanks for the quick response. I took her out of the broody breaker and put her back with "her man", but she just immediately created a nest around herself with the bedding and has been laying there all day. Third day with no eggs.

    Broody Hen Thread!

Newbie with Silkies: one hen and one rooster. They will be one year in April. She appears to have gone broody: we noticed she was always in the nesting box in the coop for a few days but then had to bring them inside our garage due to below zero degree temps. In the garage box there is not a...
