Multiple deaths; unknown cause; what's best course of action?

Likely final update I have - AI and other blood stuff was all negative on the necropsy. Cause was deemed to be cancer.

They did not test for Marek's, I believe. The bird (and all our birds) are vaccinated. They did test of AI, but test isn't back yet.

Multiple deaths; unknown cause; what's best course of action?

Final update on this issue: Bird passed, necropsy performed. Cancer. Lot of cysts and growths found in their intestinal tract. Some evidence of egg peritonitis issues, but DR didn't think this was the cause of death. Indicated it is common to see with a bird with cancer. No worms. Lice was...

Multiple deaths; unknown cause; what's best course of action?

Thank you for the idea of the dust/sock. We have some spray for other livestock that does contain permethrin. We may treat the entire flock just to be sure, and plan for a coop deep clean. I did check her mouth, but not super thoroughly. It looked normal. I believe the smell was from the back...

Multiple deaths; unknown cause; what's best course of action?

Yes, 100% not maggots. I think the smell was death, poop. She was losing so much body mass, so quickly, I don't think she was well 'inside'. The chicken passed. I have her on refrigeration and plan to take her to a state lab tomorrow. Thankfully, we have one that's only an hour away. Hoping...

Multiple deaths; unknown cause; what's best course of action?

Virginia. Zone 7A. We haven't wormed our chickens recently. It's been a couple years. We typically have only wormed in the past when we saw evidence of worms. Full pasture access. They have access to lots of plants, but none that I know to be poisonous. They do not have access to compost right...

Multiple deaths; unknown cause; what's best course of action?

Thanks for your reply. Long story short, we've had two hens pass away within 2 weeks. Both younger 1/2 years. Healthy hens up until this point. Both were good layers. Suspect is something ingested. They had a 'sour' crop, but no smells or issues. They just both had a leaky crop and general...

Multiple deaths; unknown cause; what's best course of action?

I think I'm going to lose my 3rd bird today. So far, the rest of the flock is doing fine. Any old scraps or moldy vegetable carcass we've seen around (which was not much) we removed. In anticipation to necropsy the 3rd bird, I'll need to drive it to a state lab that's about an hour away. If I...

Multiple deaths; unknown cause; what's best course of action?

Thanks to both of you. Northern Virginia. Diet is a local non-gmo layer blend. No mold that I can see in their food. It's kept dry and I always inspect the food. Yes to possible mold exposure from some vegetable scraps though. We give less than ideal garden produce to them that we grow, but we...

Multiple deaths; unknown cause; what's best course of action?

Hello! Hoping for a little link to resources or ideas for best course of action. We've been raising chickens for 5 years. We have a flock of 23, roughly. 2 Roos, 21+ hens. Overall, we've had a very healthy flock with no 'illness' related deaths during our time. We've recently (within a week...

Leghorn - lethargic - limited eating and drinking

9/12 - 4pm We've given 200mg of Calcium to both chicks. Leghorn took it down fine. She's still lethargic, but eating and drinking. Dorking did not want to swallow. I'm hearing a lot of gargle sounds. Her crop feels the same as earlier, like a balloon. She's eating, but haven't seen her drink...
