Pullets or Roos? Egg color guesses?- loving these Easter Eggers!

Yes! I noticed that some of the EEs have more blue/gray feet while others have more of a green tint. I wonder if that will reflect the egg coloring? 🤔Either way, I’m excited to see what happens.

Update on the chooks: They are still doing some changing. Jury is still out. Blue’s hackles had me watching him or her for weeks, but Lola’s red coloring and Roberta’s comb has me side-eyeing 👀 *please note: those are black raspberries in the Lola picture, not questionable droppings

I hope it does! It’s probably my favorite coloring. Very Princess Zelda vibes. :D

Pullets or Roos? Egg color guesses?- loving these Easter Eggers!

First time raising chicks and I am loving my Easter Eggers! I got 5 EE and 5 BO from a hatchery. I thought the BOs were supposed to be a more snuggly breed, but my EEs have really outshined them in personality and transformation. The beards have me laughing every time despite my dislike of them...

    Help! Egg bound or worse??

Thank you!! I will keep treating with calcium and keep a close watch on her egg laying. Sorry for the confusion about the SafeGuard. I did not see the “Equine” part on my first read through, just the goat. I will give that a try. Thanks again!

    Help! Egg bound or worse??

Update update: she laid an egg yesterday that was pretty normal looking (slightly paler than the others, but not as pale or brittle as the first one I saw). She was roosting with the others when I got home last night and this morning she was peppy and running around with the girls again. Still...

    Help! Egg bound or worse??

Ok. I just checked the local feed store and all they had was equine dewormer. The only medications they had for fowl was Vetericyn. We live pretty rural so chickens are mostly seen as easily discarded and replaced. Any thoughts on which problem it likely was? I’d prefer to special order one...

    Help! Egg bound or worse??

Thank you! Not sure about previous deworming, but I doubt it. Long story short, they all came from a company in a neighboring town that was done using them as test subjects for a coop design. I regularly use ACV, garlic, and cayenne pepper in their food and water along with seasonal things...

    Help! Egg bound or worse??

Update: ok chicken friends I checked on the girls this morning and I am officially confused. I went into the coop and there was no egg, but my hen looked fine. She even had a little dust bath with the other girls. Last night I had given her a handful of medicated chick feed (Amprolium) because...

    Help! Egg bound or worse??

Thank you for the reply! We believe she is around 2 years old(we inherited them a few months ago so we are unsure exactly). I just checked her crop and it felt empty/I was not able to feel anything there. I did not see her eating in the last few hours so that seems right. I put some crumble in...

    Help! Egg bound or worse??

I found my hen in the nest box today falling asleep while squatting. This is strange to me because 1) she was falling asleep standing up and 2) I already got all my eggs accounted for today (although one might’ve been laid last night?). Not sure if she’s egg bound for a few days and the 4th one...

    Fluffy Tailfeathers

This was really helpful. Now that you mention it, they have been taking a lot more dust baths as of late so that makes sense to me. I have peepers and CBD oil so I will give that a try. Thank you!

    Fluffy Tailfeathers

Hello, I have one hen that has had fluffy back feathers for maybe a month now. I routinely check her for lice and the q-tip looking egg bundles, but I haven't seen anything of the sort. The feather shafts look normal and my other birds are fine. She does seem a bit smaller/lighter weight than...

    Vent Pecking

Ok, thank you! They all look identical to me. Is there a specific brand that the group has had more success with than others, or are they all pretty much a “horse a piece”?

I currently have 2 White Rocks and 2 RIRs. We will be getting 5 Easter eggers and 5 Buff Orpington this summer to add to the chook house
