Great pictures!
I agree about Blinky :( but no guesses as to the rest. One of my Wyandotte chicks last year had much bigger/redder comb and wattles than the rest, and I was so sure it was a roo. Instead Wyatt (Wyette?) is a bossy noisy hen. So, don't count your roosters until they crow?

K0k0shka, did you have any success taming the poopy butt? Not to hijack the thread, but having just given my Buff Orpington her third butt bath in about 5 weeks, I would like a better solution for her dirty bum. I'm going to try a little fluff trimming with scissors I guess. The other 5 hens are...
I ordered an Omlet door in gray last August, and it was scheduled to ship in late October! I needed the door sooner, so changed my order to green which was in stock. I love the door, it has worked perfectly. I use the light sensor and have had no problems. I also got the add-on LED light which...
They managed to kick sand out of mine, it is true. And yesterday my Buff Orpington apparently took a very thorough dust bath right before going to bed in the coop last night. This morning there was dark dust all around her favorite roost spot. It looked like someone took a sieve and dusted dirt...
I think slanting the roof is a good idea in your situation. Since that will dump water around the dust bath you may want to consider using a tub like I did to keep the dust bath drier and prevent water seeping in. I fill mine with a sand/dirt mix and they like it. I used "Little Giant Poly Oval...
I just built mine a covered dust bath contraption! I used a low feeder tub for the dust bath part, and covered it plus roost bars on the side. The table top will lift off to clean (the plan was to reduce pooping in the dust bath). So far they seem to enjoy playing on it!
Just looking at this thread for the first time, and from reading the title I don't understand (almost) 800 pages. Orpingtons of course. No bickering needed! :yesss:
I finally got around to poking further at my mystery pellet thing and remain as confused as ever.
So no bones at all, and indeed it seemed to be mostly plant fibers I guess. There were several firm round bits inside, and I pulled the largest few out to the side (pointed at by the weed forensic...
Really? I can't imagine what could get on that roof just to poop on a slippery steep surface. And it would have left muddy prints if so.
There are Google images that show hawk and owl pellets that look like my sample, especially the very fresh and not weathered ones. That pellet showed up...
It is definitely a pellet, I'll try to dissect it a bit tomorrow. It is not feces, it appears to be tight packed fur, and I think I saw some bone.
Oh, and hawks and eagles do also make pellets. On doing some research, herons and some shorebirds do as well!
So I went out to see the chickens this morning, and saw something odd on the clear panel roof of the run . Turns out it was a large pellet cast from a bird of prey! We have owls, hawks and eagles aplenty here and I suppose it could have been any of those. It must have been a fairly large bird...
I have the Omlet door and love it! Yes it is over $100 ($189 list price) BUT it lets the chickens out at dawn with the light sensing door, and *I* am not out there at the crack of dawn to do it manually. Priceless.
