Have to share this little miraculous chick....

She actually drowned in her water cap :( I checked her, walked away for 2 seconds and she must have rolled onto her back. It looked like she wasn't going to walk right and lose her leg. Sad little thing :( Broke my heart, I cried for hours.

Have to share this little miraculous chick....

I'm a little worried, her left leg and foot is so twisted that she keeps falling over and getting stuck on her back. I tried to splint her feet but she's too weak still :( I can also hear her heart beat outside her body - like a slight popping sound. Any suggestions?

Have to share this little miraculous chick....

Day 3 - she's doing pretty good. She keeps drinking too fast and bubbling and gurgling, seems like she gets waterlogged really fast.

Have to share this little miraculous chick....

This summer we went to Maine for 4 weeks and left my 19 year old son in charge of our hens (and one rooster). They hadn't started laying as of when we left so I gave him instructions on how to look for the eggs and teach them to lay in the coop. Needless to say, the kid is 19. When we returned...

I didn't think my Hens were laying... then I found a VERY LARGE nest in the woods...

Thanks so much guys- that was the info I needed. I put them in an incubator. She's not on them day and night, its just a few minutes in the morning when she goes to lay. I was hoping its been warm enough that they'll be ok. There are actually 17 eggs so at least she's 2 weeks or more into...

I didn't think my Hens were laying... then I found a VERY LARGE nest in the woods...

By the way we are in Eastern PA and until today it's been an average of 85 degrees with a low of 70 at night.

I didn't think my Hens were laying... then I found a VERY LARGE nest in the woods...

So we went to Maine for a month and I left my 19 year old in charge of the flock (first mistake) while I was gone. He did take good care but he didn't watch where my free range hens were laying obviously. As of when I left they hadn't started laying yet. Today I followed my Rhode Island Red to...

Easter Egger Roo in need of rehoming.

I have a gorgeous 18 week old Easter Egger Rooster - who needs to be rehomed in Chester County PA. He's beautiful and strong and will make a great breeding bird (because he's active and ready trust me!) but he's too loud for our neighborhood. If we had more land we would keep him. He's been a...

Australorp - they used to be twins but now...

Given how they determine male from female, I can see how there's lots of mistakes ! I'm glad they are both ladies, it's a relief because my Easter Egger wouldn't be thrilled. He's jittery as it is, competition would push him over the edge!

Australorp - they used to be twins but now...

I can tell them apart by their distinctive tail feathers. Which has me wondering - Is my Sparkle a rooster? We just figured out that our Easter Egger is a rooster so if she/he is - that brings my eggs down to 4. Thoughts? Does she just have a pointy backside? Thank you again guys - I know I...

Easter Egger (edited from Wyandotte) pullet or roo?

I'm attached too - to every one of them. And if can keep them safe, even better. Thank you for the encouragement. We have always thought Owlie was the prettiest!

Easter Egger (edited from Wyandotte) pullet or roo?

Now that I compare his chick photos to the easter egger photos online I can see it - they all look like owls! Even from day one he was trouble :) We got them from the feed store and his ticket said Wyandotte but you are right! Now do I keep him or rehome? We have 7 (you have to have more than...
