    Gasping for air

I have no help to give you. However, I'm so very sorry for your loss. It sounds like she meant a lot to you, not just a bird. I hope you find answers.

Comment by 'TexasChick47' in article 'Dust bathing – Why, where and how? Keeping your flock clean and happy.'

Love the article. Didn't understand the "why", so now I'm smarter than when I woke up this morning. Thanks for sharing. I modified a plastic storage bin by cuting a square hole in one end . The bottom of the hole is about 4 inches from the bottom of the bin. I put sand about 3 inches deep and...

    Grazing box for my girls

I'm planning to put in a grazing box in the run for my young ladies. Any recommendations for what kind of grass to plant and where to get SMALL quantities? Chewy.com has an indoor grass growing "box" for cats, dogs, pet birds etc. Can I scatter that seed in my grazing box? Suggestions, please.

    Any crafters here?

I make greeting cards from scratch; cardstock paper, rubber or photopolymer stamps, inks. I sell them in a local store. I don't make much money, but I do get enough to feed my card-crafting addiction.

Hawks, Netting, Miracles, and the Missing.

So glad you found your babies! It's heartbreaking to lose them, especially to a predator. I lost two to a Great Horned Owl that got into our run a few years ago. We captured it and released it about 6 miles from our house. They have a 5 mile range, so I hope it didn't find its way back.

What have you repurposed while building ?

The "coop" was not anchored. It is inside the run which is sided with chicken wire, hardware cloth and shade cloth. The wind (and we get some heavy gusts) go right through the run. The coop has never moved unless we move it ourselves.

Howdy Neighbor. As you can tell, I'm in Texas, just south of Fort Worth. Welcom to BYC. Lots of good folks here and good information too.

    Brand new to chickens, NJ

Welcome Jersey. You're in my home state. I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here just as fast as I could. I know you're going to be battling some cold winters there. There are folks from all over here in BYC, and I'm sure they'll be happy to give you guidance as you need it.
