Well folks, here is the first egg.....99% sure it from one of the Barred Rocks.
I built 'em a nice Hen house, with 3 nice nesting boxes, Saturday, I opened them up, laid in some nice straw for a nest, dropped in a few ceramic eggs for training aids, and she laid it outside, in the dirt, inside...
Just an update on the integration, I have been so busy around here, I have fallen behind on these.
So as of right now, ALL 7 birds sleep on the top bar. The original 4 as I call them 2 RIR and 2 BARs, go to bed first, the the plymouths follow about 10 minutes or so later.
They get on well...
Ok, so a new update. The girls are 19 weeks now, and the string eater is STILL here, and I STILL have no idea which one she is.
No one shows any ill effects, and all seem very happy and content. I keep an eye on their droppings in the Hen house, but since they free range the yard as well, I...
Just an update. No super joyful news, but as a bonus, no problems either.
There is STILL no sign of the string, no enlarged crop, no trailing dingle berries, just a seemingly healthy happy pullet.
This is the weirdest dang thing!
So to quote an old adage Enola, "no news is good news" lol.
enola, That was my thought, that maybe it has started working though. What worries me there is that if she has, theres nothing further I can do but wait.
And as for pulling it...NO WAY ;-) I do not want to cause the poor girl any more grief/damage than she already has. I carry a pair of...
my problem here is that there isnt a vet in my area that is even remotely interested in helping me out.
My thing is, that since the crop isn't bulging, is the digestive system, starting to work it over? Without an xray I am lost tho lol. I wonder if I can sneak her into the hospital x-ray...
Hi Folks,
I hate to have to bring this to the table, but I have a potentially fatal issue, that I need feedback/advice on.
3 days ago, I hung a treat in the coop for my girls, when I returned, one of them had somehow managed to get the string down from the rafter that I had it suspended...
10 weeks.
Yeah I kinda figured they would eventually get it right ;-) They have all been up on the roosts, but not on a regular basis, so Ill just monitor and see how it goes.
Well Darn it ;-)
I am having the same issue, and the light doesnt seem to entice them. I went out last night and the were all huddled up together over by the water dish, 2 feet from the ramp.
Tonight I hung a tether-ball (cucumber) in the coop before dusk, when I went out a lil bit ago...
