    Questioning Bumblefoot??? Please help!

Well I watched a couple of videos and then we soaked her foot 10 min, pulled the scab off with tweezers and nothing was under it. I squeezed a good bit but nothing. So I cut. She hated it. Squeezed more and still nothing. I tried going in with tweezers but I couldn’t find anything. Did I not cut...

    Permethrin 10 and babies

I’m wondering if permethrin 10 is safe for 2 week old chicks? I was treating for mites when my two broodies hatched and I’ve waited to spray again because they are in a separate pen in the coop all together for integration purposes but the mites are coming back like crazy on the eggs. I need to...

Thank you. I keep DE, sand, wood ash and dirt in a giant dust box in the coop all year long. It’s clearly not working for me. I can see the hens I got with the dust are improving. When I handle them there is far less mites on my gloves than before. I know I need to spray and wondered if I should...

    Mites Gone Wild

So this winter I had a couple of broodies that I noticed some mites on their eggs. I dusted them with permethrin, the eggs and such. The moms seemed to clear up and her babies seemed fine. I now am realizing we have a massive infestation. I’m noticing it in all of my birds. Constantly itching...

Broodies, and babies, and ranging! OH MY!

Happy Wednesday. I have two broody mamas that went broody in December/January (oddly enough in freezing cold Iowa) and I finally let them sit. Two weeks ago tomorrow each hen hatched five babies a piece (one went MIA and one didn't hatch). So I penned off part of the coop with dog crate fencing...

    Chick waterers totally frozen solid!

Thanks. I tried breaking them for almost two months. Removing them multiple times a day from the nest, then put them on the roost, turn the lights off and run. I bet they thought what a real nut job lol nothing I tried worked. Alas.......here we are.
