Hi:) I posted this in the guinea fowl forum a week ago and no one as been active in there and I know we Mainers are a bit more active. Maybe you can help me out. I just copy and pasted here : "Hello - I am a first time guinea owner. We have raised 4 of them since they were day old keets. We had...

    Raising Guinea Fowl 101

Hello - I am a first time guinea owner. We have raised 4 of them since they were day old keets. We had one behaving quite strange for a few days - she wouldn't extend her neck, was roosting a lot and generally seems 'off' if she came out of the coop she seems disoriented. Yesterday, she came...

Also, I'm typing on my cell phone. So, pardon in advance for any auto correct or double word posts. My phone has a mind of its own!

Also, we'd like to hatch next year and we're curious when they typically mate and come of age for that. We absolutely LOVE them and all of their antics. They are awesome to watch. I'll never be without without a guinea now!

    Raising Guinea Fowl 101

Hello! I have 4 guineas. They have been outside about 2.5 weeks now and are almost 2 months old They are sleeping with the hens and share the same run as well. No the hens still charge at them on occasion. This is our first go with guineas and chickens. The guineas seem to keep to themselves and...

Wow! Just looked up tetra tints. They were all from the assorted pullt bin. They don't have any brown markings and look exactly like a leg horn but with red ears. Their eggs are lightly tinted, I guess that's what they are! Thanks for the help!!

Well, gave tsc a call and they no longer have the list of the breeds they had. They had been mixed in with the red pullets. Which are red stars. 3 white chick's and 3 tan. The woman said it was probably a mix. In the end I suppose it doesn't matter too much.

Oh darn. My picture didn't post. I'm doing this from my cell phone (lack of Internet here.) Some of their combs are flopping a bit and have grown a lot in the past few weeks. But their bodies look like that for sure but with red ears, one has white. I may give tsc a call and see what the breeds...

I have a question. We have 3 what we assumed were leghorns. One has just started to lay ( eggs so far) they have been varying shades of color but usually a light tan. I thought leghorns laid white. We got them at THE this spring. Just curious what's going on I guess. In the end it doesn't matter...

@lazygardener I am entirely positive of the sexes of the guineas yet.they are only about 1.5 almost two months old. I do think I have male and female but it's hard to tell. I do have room to block in both the run and coop. It wouldn't be too terribly hard if I needed to. Right now my hens are...

I have another question while I'm thinking of it! We had our leg horn lay her(and our!) First egg yesterday. They are all on finisher food (we just bought a huge bag for them and and the guineas.) Do we need to swap to layer even though some ate not laying and oyster shells? I know know the...
