Hey guys, it has been a long time and a lot has happened. Sorry it's long, but here's an update:
Tahi and the roosters got settled at the farm pretty well! I fed them every day and came down to give some love to my precious babies :hugs
Unfortunately, they disappeared while I was on vacation. I...
He charged me way less than normal, because this is such a rare operation and he wanted to use it as a learning opportunity. He told me in advance that he had only done it once, and that he would like to use this as practice. I was willing to give it a try! So in the end, he only charged me 120...
The surgery went well! The vet said they are confident about both of them and I should watch to see how they grow up now. They are back to normal and still super friendly.
The other four have gone to a new home! There is a crazy chicken lady an hour from my place who took them gladly. She has a...
If done by a vet, yes. True, aggression is also a thing but for the farm, the unregulated reproduction is more of an issue as there are effectively zero natural enemies here so they just get more and more, and the farm lady decided that they have to stop because they will honestly overrun this...
They are going to have a nice little operation which will prevent them from fathering offspring! Meaning I can keep them at the free range farm even though they don't want any roosters because of reproduction issues! :celebrate
Makes me really happy because I don't have to let all six of them...
Good news: Two of my roos are going to see the vet on wednesday! Now I'm ecstatic, but I can't decide on number two. I have two that I really like, but I can already tell that one of them is going to be the same colour as every other rooster down at the farm, making it really difficult to tell...
Anna and Elsa have gone to their new home and met their new friend! They are now happy backyard chickens.
I was very nervous about putting them with an old chicken, but my friend didn't want to give her back, as she would've gone back to life in a dark garage if they didn't work out. Her friend...
She is a pukeko, or purple swamphen! And she's doing great.
There you go! Even though she's technically ready for living on her own, she still begs for food whenever I come past. She even still wobbles her wings sometimes I'm the begging manner. She looks simply stunning because her plumage is...
Hey guys! It has been two weeks, so I thought it might be time for a little update on my babies!
These are the two that I think are girls:
She doesn't have any chin skin, just a bit of a bigger comb. I'm praying... (just five minutes ago, I saw them in a state battle, the first girl won...
He's also super friendly and always comes up for food to my hand. He has no problem being picked up and is super chill when handled. Not scared at all, hasn't pecked at me once when I came too close to him and he didn't like it. He's a real sunshine!
Yay, hopefully!
Oh nooo! In these pics, three more have the chin skin and two have little lines there. So, only two have none which would leave me with six roos! They're at almost 5 weeks. It's a bit difficult because they all hatched in a row on different days... So some are actually 4 weeks...
