Hi!
So, I have a broody hen sitting on 8 mixed (read: unsure of breed) eggs . They are due to hatch this weekend and the beginning of next week. Its a staggered hatch. I plan on raising them in a brooder. Also, I do not plan on separating my broody hen & eggs from the rest of the flock...
" It could have been a bald eagle"
I find that amusing , considering I live no where near bald eagle territory...
Anyway, to your point! It looks like a cat print to me!
I think cats are very well capable of taking down chickens (maybe just for the fun of it) and your roaming cat sounds...
Hopefully the noise will scare them away. We have a dog in my neighborhood who sometimes gets lose, and once he got into my chickens (The cickens went into their coop- no fatalities) and we got the hose and soaked him with water. He doesnt come back.
Ah man.... That's a tough situation to be in.
Your neighbor has a point - You live in a place where chickens will die from predators.
You shouldn't shoot the dogs, though! I don't know what kind of area you live in , but around my town, dogs who are sent to the animal shelter are pretty...
Im sorry
Do you think you know whats wrong? If it was a sickness, then you dont want it spreading to the other chicks.
Depending on how squeamish you are, do you think you could do an autopsy? I understand if you dont....
Eh... I didnt think it was that bad. Like others have said, get some vitamins in her! And try giving her some pure vegetable 'smoothies'.
Keep it clean and watch for infection!
Otherwise, is she healthy? Where are you keeping her?
You should get some, anyway. You might be able to sell the rest of the container to someone.
You can just make some mushy liquid with the chick feed. Or get some chick-friendly vegetables/fruits and make a smoothie or juice them if you have a juicer. Just make sure you are only the edible parts.
Your boyfriend is wise :)
Chickens are very fun to watch. I say they could be a reality show....
