Hello, checking back in! Went through a round of homelessness, and van life right now. Had chickens keeping me going through it all, though I’ve lost my original flock to coyotes I’ve now housing a grey Cochin who is a sweet heart. Hope she’ll start laying soon and I can find a good rooster for...
Time heals all wounds, as well as visiting his cairn often. Thank you. I've had to put down one other bird since than, and though that pained me greatly, there's a small comfort that he has another cairn next to his. As well the coop has been moved near to him so his 3 sisters can visit him often.
As I shared in the message it wasn't available in my area at the time, but I appreciate the suggestion and if I'm ever in that situation again I'll look there as well. Thank you.
I definitely agree the bias against chickens is odd, certain countries views on what animals are pets and what are not are silly. All animals have the sentience and personality to be a pet given the time to learn it, and at the same time all animals have the compacity to be just meat. But we...
Having gotten some equipment and trying to splint them, I found it was a broken leg and a broken hip. I have chosen to end their suffering and no longer require assistance. Named them Paarl Jr. They're entombed next to their father now, cairn raised.
Hello there friends and fellow chicken lovers. I have a 2 day old chick that was not taken to to kindly by my hen I hoped was broody enough to care for them. They got the water fountain knocked over on them, and now are unable to walk (they were walking after hatching, I am worried they broke...
I am going to be better prepared with finding them homes while they are chicks rather then having to scramble to find a home when they are full grown, as well I am moving in the summer to a place that can have roosters so I won't be as put in a dire situation like this. My big hope was to breed...
In a perfect system they could have, but with how crowded our shelters are they don't find homes for animals once they get to Animal Control, only the rescue shelters would try something like that. It's... a sucky system.
He was going to be taken away at the end of the day by animal control and killed, and I had no one able to take him. Roosters are illegal in my town you see, and even with his crow collar he was to loud for my neighbors, who kept calling complains about him. So he was going to die at the end of...
Today was a very grim day, I killed my Rooster who I had raised and showed pictures of here. I loved him so dearly, and this truly cut deep. My neighbors were calling in animal control on him, even with his collar, and no one was willing to home him or able. Animal control told me he would be...
I absolutely love the Light Brahma, as I find it a beautiful bird to look at. Though my two are hefty eaters in return. I have found my Dominique to be the tamest, and calmest of the four I own despite my initial believe the brahma's would be the jewels of the flock.
Would love to showcase my gals (and maybe guys)
Kos or as some say Kosm (Dominque pullet: 4.5 weeks old)
Ebrietas (Light Brahma Pullet: 4.5 weeks old)
The nervous Paarl (Light Brahma possible Cockrel: 4.5 weeks old)
Micolash (Silver Laced Wyandotte possible Cockrel: 4.5 weeks old)
