Well we just went to check on the chickens and cause Suzie in her special place laying! We are up to 4 eggs now. It is Autumn here now and the winters do get cold but not harsh and I do have her set up in a side room of our barn so she is sheltered (though she can come and go from there as she...
We are very new to geese as we were given a mated pair of Pilgrims in a trade. They are 1.5 years old and the previous owner cooped them with her hens who had supplemental light in winter so "Suzie" laid out of season for them (I think January) and she just started laying for us about a week...
We have about 50 chickens, half of which are of laying age/were sold to us as already laying and yet we have never gotten more than 6 eggs per day. Most days it is closer to 2-4 eggs. We have had a lot of ups and downs and welcomed many new hens and changed a lot of things so there has been a...
I start a call for our birds from early on. Whenever I feed them or give water or just visit I make my call. "Here chick chick chick" for the hens, "guinea guinea guineas!" For the guineas... the turkeys follow that too because they were raised with the guineas. They know that sound means food...
Our buff orpington roo was doing great but we felt bad for him managing a flock of almost 40 free ranged hens alone. He was running from the coop to the barn to the front pasture to keep an eye on things. So we got another roo and our roo instigated many little fights before we separated them...
This is our 2 year old's "Baby rooster". Looking and comparing I am guessing OEG but I am not sure. (S)he came to us and we were old was 8 weeks old. It has not grown a centimeter since we got it over a month ago. No signs of crowing or other rooster things. And we found a tiny white egg in the...
These are from the same hatch I believe and they were given to us as a pullet and a roo but I am not sold on the one being a roo or not. Comb is big but feathers and feet are the same to me...
The bird in question... he was just hit with a breeze thats why he is all fluffy
Bird in question is...
Someone is giving us their hen, her roo and about 20 eggs she is setting. They live about an hour from here so they will be in the car for a bit. I worry she will leave the eggs... if she does I do have an incubator I could put them in worst case scenario. But I would love for her to hatch them...
Warning, sad and kinda gross pic...
There was a lot of blood... is that "normal"? not that any of this is normal...
Also, how long will it take (if she does pull through) for her to absorb the yolk?
She is completely out of the egg. I put them in on the 13th of april. There were 6 but then my 2 year old unplugged the incubator and only this one made it to lock down. I bumped the humidityup to 70... trying to get it hihher to keep her from getting shrink wrapped!
I laid her back in the incubator, she is still in the sack and I bumped the humidity. I am sure I will lose her but I can still see movement. The yolk is sucking in and back out over and over.
