The orange one that I first posted photos of is still being debated as to whether it's a he or a she lol. I was sure it was a pullet (and you all agreed with me) but it has different feathering from the other pullets. It has no pointed hackle feathers round its neck but it does have longer...
Thanks for all your replies. You were all right of course as when I put them back in together he done it again although this time with a little more skill lol! The poor hen is a bit traumatised though as she's been here for 3 years with no boys around so she's not very pleased that she's the...
I have a 18 week old rooster and I went out there to see him basically standing on her and grabbing her by the comb! Is he trying to mate with her or is he fighting? She was having none of it...she was standing up tall, feathers sticking out and trying to fight him! What should I do?
Thank you for your reply. What is it about the first one you think makes it look like a pullet? Just so I can try and work out the other ones for myself :)
Thank you. I'm not sure myself. He or She has had wattles and a comb longer than the other ones but it seems rather shy to be a cockerel...do all cockerels have pointy tail feathers? This one hardly has any compared to the others and they are curved too. Is that an indication?
That's great. Thank you so much for your help! I'm glad I asked now as the boys are being rehomed and I had a real soft spot for this one so it's a relief to know I'll be able to keep her. Sorry to be a nuisance but have you any idea about these two? I'm also sure they are boys (although I've...
Hi everyone! Not sure whether this is a boy or a girl. I was adamant it was a girl until this week when it started looking like it had a roo head! He or she is 15 weeks old....the thing that confuses me is the tail. The other boys all have pointy tails (that's right isn't it?) and really red...
I have never seen animals as hungry as chickens! I feed mine and then 5 minutes later they will run at me as though they were starving!!! I used to always feel bad walking past them as they seemed to be expecting me to give them something but I had to be strong and just ignore them lol :P
My chicks are 15 weeks old and I'm wondering when to stop feeding them growers pellets and move on to the layers pellets. Should I do it gradually or just change it instantly?
Thank you!
Hi everyone.
Just looking for some advice! I stupidly dropped an egg the other day in the coop and the hens were all swarmed around me at the time and annihilated the smashed egg. The next day I caught one of them trying to crack the egg open just after she'd laid it and today when I went out...
