Centipedes lol Chickens and ducks are known for keeping the property clear of them but we are seeing more in a week than we'd usually see in a year. I have a question... For the first 7 days of checking the nest I counted 12 eggs each day but now I'm counting 11 chicks and 3 unhatched eggs. Is...

Thank you. I have fed her in the coop today and removed the left overs before I closed her door for the night. General practice here is to also coop, or clip a wing so they cannot fly over the wall/ enclosure. I my be a little soppy but won't she be part of family? The rooster still visits her...

Any suggestions on what I should do to have them choose to stick around? They are the cutest things.

I think I have counted 6 so far, I've left her well alone but will sneak some pics before I lock her in for the night.

UPDATE We have baby chicks 💕 Mom's sitting is paying off. For a full 20 days and nights she has sat. She has made friends with a cat that arrived shortly after she did, also claiming a home, refused to leave her nest for the roosters visits and allowed me to build a coop around her as she sat...

Many thanks. I followed your advice and she has returned and has been happily just sitting on her eggs. I had put some buckets of tightly packed wild grass to create a screen but removed it before she returned. I have left them nearby, she noticed and paid them some attention. We have monkeys...

Good morning. She returned with a rooster about an hour ago and after making sure we knew they were here, eating the mango, tomato and popcorn left out he is closely watching her on the nest.

A local has just told me they are popular Thank you so much. She chose an area directly under our constantly open living room window and we are a very loud family of 5 so I'm hoping she will come back and wasn't scared off seeing me in the garden.

Thanks for responding Tina. Am I right in thinking then that if they have already been there 12 days that they mother may indeed come back and if she does they should start hatching in around a week?

Good afternoon, I live on the island of Barbados where there are many wild/street hens. Although we have discussed keeping chickens and ducks and have kept an area of our garden quite wild for it, we haven't got around to it yet, until it seems today. I awoke to find a wild hen nesting in a...
