Yes. The birds are wonderful. Butchered that batch in the spring, hatched a batch for replacements which should be laying anytime now. Lost an original hen from the heat and she weighed in @9lbs 3ozs. Eggs a plenty and Jumbo at that.
Average weight today was 1 lb 14 ozs but in they're defense they are running out of food on the weekdays.. I'll have to get me another feeder going so that doesn't happen.. 2 yards 1 layer 1 broiler quite a difference..
Hatched here, purposed purchase for a sustainable meat bird and so far very happy with the results but the adult flock is still only 8 months old.. So the question lies in will we be able to sustain the type for years to come ? I have 45+ years of chicken keeping and feel good about it but only...
@zebradreams07 or crazy goat lady ;-0 If you'll at my recent postings in the meat birds you'll see I am doing the likes.. However my birds are the white welp slo gro broilers.. These birds went thru that polar vortex we had all while laying.. They are some laying fools of jumbo eggs and are...
70 white broiler eggs set Thursday 4-15 hatch date 5-6.. Eggs are in a e bay incubator from china and because I'm not hip to the instructions we're turning the eggs by hand.. Eggs have an A and a P and are turned twice daily am and pm.. Would you like to play along ? How many chicks are going to...
Yesterday, 17 for 17, 8 2020 model white rocks and 9 2020 white broilers.. What fascinates us is the color change from day to day.. From off white to pink and to all shades of the brown spectrum.. Just got 5 eggs out of the broilers and they are all very light near an off white color..
Fresh move and they love the clover, it will be devoured by this time tomorrow.. These guys appear to have reproduced themselves.. Thick legs and some toe curling, now to see if we get the same 1 lb gain that we got from 18-to 26 days..
You don't process by age.. You process by weight.. 7 weeks for the type is a bit early unless your wanting a Cornish hen size bird.. Are you growing on a 20% protein ? Your post indicates that your new to this. The said roos are doing what chickens do, no mean or bossy it's just chicken life at...
I'd have to say someone along the line juggled the namesakes and put them back together incorrectly.. You'll likely want to start planning your butcher date..
Our 9 meat bird hens gave us 9 eggs today, they also have 70 eggs in the bator right now.. They also have 48 pound and a half chicks in the tractor that will butcher 1st part of June.. So the meat birds we're keeping are the best for us.. They're along the line of a freedom ranger but white...
