    Given that of the 5 silkie day olds 2 of the 3 mottled had such bad crossbeak (once mama started field trips) that I sent them to a rescue, the last mottled being a boy is...eh. Just par for the season.

    Both of them would be exciting. So that means the white one with the scraggly eyebrows is a boy? First and probably last go round with silkies. Mild mannered but rather dim! Their cochin mama much prefers them to the eggers.

    We had a lot of denial last year when miss Apple Brown Betty started crowing, but Buster Brown was a good rooster who didn't mind sharing his hens and totally gave up his life to get the fox to drop the carcass of a top hen.     The other two are proper cochin so the weird tricolor in the middle must be a boy because he has wattles and the satin feather does not.

    Another dirt pile ambush. Mystery cochin orpington bantam. Really hoping this is a pullet but am seeing some dominance games with the silkies.

    If the back end takes after egger, then I would expect saddle feathers but it doesn't look like Orpington does as obvious tail.
