They are very resilient! She got down to probably about 2 pounds last year if I'm remembering correctly, but when she got better she jumped back up to 5lbs in no time again! So even though she's practically all bone now, I hold out hope that things will improve and she'll fatten up in no time!
Oh yes, I know, it's definitely last resort. We have tried EVERYTHING for the past month and no change - from treating sour crop (which I'm not even convinced it ever went sour, but just in case because of no change), to oil and massage, digestive enzymes, stool softener, homeopathic...
It’s great she’s drinking! I would try massaging more often (we shoot for about 4x a day if we can for several minutes each time to help stimulate digestion), but you may be at the point that you need to try something else. I’d look into trying the digestive enzyme that’s cellulase and doing 1...
If she smells sour, it’s possible that’s what you’re dealing with and you’d either need to continue the ACS or get monistat suppositories. Mine will never drink the ACS so I’d always have to syringe it, but I don’t always use it. She could have an impaction leading to sour crop but even with...
I’m so sorry. But don’t give up hope! We thought our girl was gonna die multiple times, but she’s been pretty resilient. You could stop the ACS for now and just do the Monistat instead - that is if you’re sure she’s sour crop? Does it feel more like an impaction? I would try giving the stool...
My girl’s poop is very watery, and she also has a purple comb. Last year when we went through this with her before, it went purple and shrunk up. I think it’s not as common, but it does happen! Part of it could be because all the blood is directed at the molting, but there’s no breathing issues...
So the Reglan was actually mine I was put on years ago. After dealing with this last year, her vet and I decided to try it. I cut it up into very small pieces to be as close to the dosage she would be on based by weight, but it’s not exact. Then I give her that 2x a day. If you have access to...
I’m sorry for the late reply! I don’t think it’s as particularly hard as some I’ve seen… but it’s hard on her for sure. But it’s also hard to tell… right now she looks like a pokey drowned rat, lol. Her poop shows she’s dehydrated… same as last year when we dealt with this. Ugh
As of right now we’re doing minimal interventions compared to before. I happen to have metoclopramide (Reglan) that I’ve been giving her 2x a day that is sometimes used to help a slow crop, a stool softener 2x a day just for a few days since she’s not empty in the morning and it’s hard right...
Thank you for your updates! Also, the neurological issues can pop up when they’re deficient in certain vitamins, and if she wasn’t eating her normal feed at the time, that could have been why. When we see that happen we usually give vitamin e and selenium (the horse gel for it); a pea sized...
Have your others begun laying yet? This is actually very normal. I only have one girl that rarely ever made a peep when laying an egg. The rest are loud sometimes before, but often right after laying. It’s their “egg song.” And then, sometimes the others will do it when one starts going! I hope...
