    Separating dogs/Moving

Thank you for that information. I'm thinking of waiting until ds gets home from his dad's before bringing Boots to the new place. That way, they can spend the extra time together. I will get some Kong treats. I got those when he was younger, but he chewed through them. As for the indoors...

    Separating dogs/Moving

Hey y'all! I'm moving in a few weeks and taking my almost 2 year old American Bulldog, Boots. Boots has been raised as an outdoor dog with my dad's (now 3 year old) Blue Heeler, Steele. I'm concerned about separating them. I'm afraid Boots or Steele will be sad. Dad is planning to get 2...

    Chicken chaser

I had the same problems with my 1 y/o American Bulldog and 2 y/o Australian Cattle Dog. AB was eating chickens (and a turkey) and AC chases cars. We built them a pen and they've been in it for the last year. I'm moving and taking my AB in the next couple weeks. Dad is getting 2 cows and...

Too many roos? What do you do?

We got 15 BA chicks last spring. ELEVEN of them were roos. We had a neighbor help up prepare them for the freezer. Ohhhh it was EASY because they were vicious little buggers. You could not go out the back door (which is where I park) without fear of being attacked.

    Spent the morning in lockdown....

Like Chicken Lady, the school where I teach locks down for reasons other than imminent physical danger. We are near train tracks and have been told we could have to lock down if a train derails with dangerous chemicals on it. One of our main reasons has been too many teachers absent and/or not...

Putting Faces With Names (Submit Your Mug Here!)

This is my son Andrew and me. He grew his hair out for Locks of Love. Look for my post about it soon. This picture was last Easter. Here is Andrew with my parent this Easter. Check out the hair on that kid - Daddy, too. We live in their house and they drive to 400 miles from South Florida...

HELP! CAN CHICKS GET TOO HOT?

I've taken the heat lamp away and switched to a standard 100 watt light bulb. Hopefully that will do. I'm rather limited, since it is after midnight. I'll probably not sleep well tonight for worrying. I notice that they are moving a bit more and not all rushing to the back side of the box...

Cayuga/ pekin xs green ducklings??!!!!! no joke

Wow! Who would have thought. I thought rabbits were herbivores. This duckling was already a few days old, so maybe something else happened. It didn't look beaten up or anything, except (weak stomach beware) that its beak was eaten away by the ants. It was fine this morning when I left for...

HELP! CAN CHICKS GET TOO HOT?

I've got a standard 10 ream paper box, like form office depot. I cut a corner out of the lid (maybe 6" x 6") to keep the chicks in. I placed a wire thing on top (like for organizing the cabinets) again to keep them in. I've got one of those industrial type heat lamps pretty close to the box...

HELP! CAN CHICKS GET TOO HOT?

I've got seven brand new babies in a box under a heat lamp in the kitchen. They have already found the water and been drinking and eating some. But it looks like 2 of them are panting. Their little mouths are open and they seen to be breathing faster than the others. Could it be too hot in...

    Yogurt frenzy

How old are your chicks? We have some brand new one's and Mom makes her own yogurt. I wasn't prepared for the hatchlings yet (not for a couple more weeks, I thought) and haven't bought any chick starter. I've got game fowl starter but that's not medicated. We had a guinea and a couple...

    not what it should be

Awwww smom! You are not a bad chicken mommy. You are just a NEW chicken mommy. I started last year and was far less prepared or excited than you are. Dad (in whose house ds and I live) said he was getting chickens and I thought he was just talking AGAIN. He got them; then I got my own...

Taking chicks from Momma GOT PICS!!

Quote: Huh, funny the things that we pick up on, but yes. Some of the eggs came from the fridge. I'm not 100% sure how many nor if all the planted eggs have hatched, because our property is so very overrun with poison oak, sumac, and ivy that I can barely go outside. Ds and my father...
