Yes! The deer and rabbits are mostly repelled by a 6-foot fence, but I would love a 'moat' to allow the chickens to act like perimeter guards against the grasshoppers (which, fortunately, they love).
Our ducklings are about 4 weeks now and it's looking really likely that we have 2 males and one female; even if I give away one male, will 1:1 be too much for the female? Also, at what age will the drakes start wanting to mate? Thanks! I appreciate the helpfulness of the experienced duck people...
So cool! Mine are about the same age, and we'll be finishing their new 'quarters' tomorrow...It will be so nice to see them run around. They're almost too big for their tub now.
Thanks, y'all--the TSC here had a placard by the ducklings that said just what you were told, ie, ducks could be any of those five breeds. Either way, the little fuzzballs are growing fast!
So, I'm in Texas, and have 3 ducklings (now one week old) from the TSC near me that appear identical to yours...and no, the kid selling them couldn't say which breed...so, I'm wondering if you've figured out yet whether yours are mallards or Rouens? I'll be happy either way, but we'll have to...
Oh, thank you--I'm not alone! My 3 'ducklets' are also a week old now, and I am having the same issues; water and poop everywhere, even ten minutes after it's all cleaned. But, like yours, they seem active and happy, so I'm hoping this is all okay. At least they're growing quickly. Good luck...
Ok, I admit, we just got 3 Rouen day-old ducklings today, and my teenage son has already named them Tape, Call, and Bill. (And he refuses to admit the sticky gray stuff is duct tape, not duck) But this is the same child who once named our three laying hens K, F, and C, only I took pity on them...
