Also, if they freerange during the day, they could have found a really nice place to lay that you don't know about. Do you hear the egg song while they are free ranging?
Woosaw.......let them be. If you keep playing with them they definitly will not hatch. 5 days is too soon. If they haven't hatched in another 17 days, ok they're duds. Let nature take its course.
Lol. My dog also loves to lay by the coop and watch the chicks. She would eat everyone of them if we hadn't over built it to keep her out! She's still a good dog she just doesn't understand why we won't let her have these self propelled squeaky toys.
I had a black olive egger years ago and she was by far my favorite hen. Beautiful large olive egg. I don't make pets of my birds, but she was always friendly and would follow me around and "help" with chores.
I too started my chicks on a nipple system and I'm noticing the same thing. Going to to put in a waterer that I use for our dog when we go out of town. Still going to leave the nipple system in the coop though.
17 chicks 2 are roos. Purina chick starter. He pecks pretty hard at their heads and pins them down. I took him outside the pen and held him for a few minutes twice and that seemed to have calmed him down. We'll see.
Their run is 8ftx20ft covered. The coop is 6ftx8ft. Its hot here in southern Utah so I've been letting them outside in the run. He just started pecking this morning. Its not hot yet, plenty of food and water.
Just starting back into chickens again. Ordered 16 plus the free exotic from Murray McMurray. 3 black australorps (1 roo will have to go), 2 blue andelusians, 2 ameracaunas, 3 wellsummers (1 roo same thing), 3 dark cornish, 1 cukoo maran, 1 pretty? buff naked neck, and 1 white crested black...
Hi, just wanted to introduce myself. I finally have chicks again after a 17 year dry spell. I forgot how fun it is. I love this site, it's like facebook for chickens! My mixed flock of 17 chicks are 2 weeks today and growing fast. :D
