Please help with LF ID for this mamma and her teens.

Thanks to all those that looked and especially those that responded. I will, once again offer to help for next year but will try to take a lead from other states books on how to handle the whole thing.

So disappointing. I don't care for sellers (he's not a breeder) that don't know their birds or even keep the breeds separate.

Please help with LF ID for this mamma and her teens.

So So Disappointing, but I suspected they were not full blooded. She has a couple of lavender Orpingtons, but doesn't want to end up losing one to the auction. They are also not on the list of breeds that were available. (I don't know if that matters or not) I thought that all area 4H had to...

    What's on your wish list?

Bantam cochins started out as my favorite and 35 years later still are. Getting the colors I want is much, much more difficult. I have buff hens, but can't seem to keep a buff cock. I have not had good luck with my lavender or splash either. I finally gave up on bobtail after several dozen eggs...

Please help with LF ID for this mamma and her teens.

Hi all! It has been a while since I needed help on bird ID, mostly because we deal with almost all bantams and are pretty good with their IDs. LF, not so much. In February my daughters signed up for the local 4H chick chain as they usually do. They chose the breeds they wanted from the list...

could anyone tell me what breed is this little chicken?

Several bantam breeds look similar. Old English game bantam, Dutch bantam, Serama, sometimes Japanese. Her legs look pretty short for an OEGB or Dutch and she doesn't stand like a Japanese, with her tail and head up with her back straight. She also isn't standing upright like OEGB, Dutch and...

    Breed

Splash OEGB. The darker grey blue spots on the white or light blue background are splash. Solid blue would be lavender/blue.

    Bantam chick gender/breed help

Black tail buff (hard to find if OEGB, so probably Japanese) and probably Black Breasted Red OEGB. (several of them look similar to me until final feathers) The first ones legs look a bit too long for a Japanese bantam, but the tail is more upright than OEGB.

    Name that chicken!

Silkies mixed with Cochins can produce "Satins", Silkie traits with smooth feathers. Silkies mixed with NNs can produce "Showgirls". Neither are recognized by the ABA as far as I know, but they are so cute. I would say she is a satin showgirl. Here are a few of mine. 1. Rain, satin 2...

    Just chick pics?

Between my daughters and I we have around 130. I'll post pictures of favorites.

    Breed of these two bantams?

You have a beautiful pair of barred Old English Game bantams. They are friendly, great mothers, very protective. The personalities are adorable.

Sudden patches of missing feathers on necks, below beak

My lead roo has the same issue. I finally caught a hen plucking and eating his feathers while they were roosting for night. He lets her do it. He is constantly growing new feathers there, but they never get to come in enough to be more than a pin feather spike. They have plenty of protein and...

    question about eggs

Chickens can take weeks to months to get their system regulated once they start laying. Some lay eggs with extra calcium, some lay eggs without a shell, some lay fairy eggs. Some of my girls lay a nice smooth, one color egg with almost a shine it's so smooth. Others lay a smooth egg with spots...

    Belgian Maline turned renegade!

My lead rooster is going on 8y. He has always been a gentleman with the hens and asks politely. Even with the bantams. (He is a bantam cochin, but a good sized one) Ed will get extra frisky around this time each year. Its nesting season and he wants to mate and procreate. Occasionally he will...
