DAY 2! My bride & I processed another 15 birds yesterday (tues 8/14) and I got dressed wts for 7 this time. We culled the largest on Sunday so this batch is running smaller. Avg dressed wt with a 7 bird sample came to about 5.2 lbs this time.

Processing day! My Brother, his wife, Me & my wife banged out 20 birds in about 2.5 hrs. We took a few birds to get the hang of it, but then we cruised on to victory. I used a wheel barrow to load 4 birds at a time. 1 Cone, a turkey frier scalder (we used the basket) and a Vevor plucker...

They're dumber than a bag of hammers, but no casualties. As Joel Salatin has said many times, they ain't very bright but they know all they need to be successful chickens. :D They're ready to process, but moving took top billing. We'll start culling the bigguns, I think, next weekend if my...

I probably should sharpen the blades on the bushhog again. The rider is down atm. I've used T posts on the corners before, but it's not so portable for the old farts. Maine is a big rock pile with a little dirt sprinkled on it, makes driving posts a bear. I'll see how it goes with the step...

You guess right. Just can't get it stretched enough to keep the conducters clear. I DO have some step in posts I might try to pick up the saggy spots tho. Still getting 3.5k+ all the way around. More is better, but its only the .3 joule model.

Our birds are in week 6 now and so far all is awesomeness. We have 51 or 54 (wife did the counting, lol) active dinos on pasture eatting grass and bugs and hope to start filling the freezer in a few more weeks. I need to weight a couple, but they look to be around 2# live atm. No losses, no...

    Feeding Cornish Cross chicks

I know its here somewhere, but I suck at searching for anything so.... Our CCs are getting HUGE! Hatch date was June 12th, we got em in the brooder on the 14th and have kept food in front of them since. -They're now almost tripled in size and some are already getting to that "lazy" stage...

Got "the call" from our USPS about 0745. We have 51 very lively little blondes scampering around like water bugs. Beaks dipped on entrance, feeder in, heat lamp has one end at about 95*F, but they don't act cold at all with ambient temp here at 70ish atm.

Thanks & I hope so too. The gentleman that called me was pretty happy with Windy Meadows so we should have some tasty BBQ in Aug or so.

I forget how much, but yes shipping was paid at time of order. They discount the chicks price starting at 50 birds. Still trying to get a response from they as to where my birds are going.

Well, time to get the brooder ready! I got a call from someone in TN, letting me know he got my shipping email, yesterday. I used the contact form to ask about it, but no PH # so don't know where exactly our chicks are going yet. They hatched yesterday so I expect them tomorrow (Fri 6/14) I...

Yes, totally tongue in cheek there. I hope my birds will have the best of care, a wonderful life on grass and only one bad day.
