So for breakfast my wife boiled a few of our eggs, and one them came out like this. It's all dark green, the white and the yoke. And it smelled terrible. This egg wasn't very old, and we haven't changed the chicken's diet. Any ideas?
I'd prefer Australorpes, or maybe Rhode Islands. Need a breed that is a good layer for most of the year.

I have some scrap wood, nothing pressure treated or rated for outdoors though. I have the tools and skills to do it, just haven't taken on a large project before so I wasn't sure what it would cost.
So it sounds like I could build one for less than $500 then?
Hmm, didn't occur to me to special order chicks. I suppose I could ask. Is there any other breeds that are worth requesting, or do you recommend all Australorps?
Well, I take that back. A little searching on craigslist and someone is selling that breed a couple of hours away, but I hate driving that far so I'd prefer to buy locally. If the tractor supply breeds aren't good choices, then I might have to.
If I had access to that breed that would be great, but locally my options are limited. Tractor Supply and a local farmers coop seem to be the only places selling them. The chicks at the coop are housed in what I could only describe as bakers racks. They are cramped, dirty, and it's hard to stand...
We don't have many options as to where to buy our first chicks from. The ones at our local Tractor Supply seem the healthiest.
They have:
Red Pullets
Assorted Pullets tetra tint
Assorted Bantams
There is also a local farmer that might have some "Old English Game Bantums" for sale.

My wife and I are in the planing stages of building our first coop. We want to house at least 6 chickens, and have a run for them. We want to do this as cheaply as possible (well, without it looking like an eyesore).
If I do the work myself, how much should I realistically plan on spending...
