    I know a lot of people hatch chicks year round, but I notice a lot also do their hatching for spring. Im wondering when you all start separating your chickens into their breeding pens for your spring hatches?

    My old boy Zeus is about as gentle as they come, with people that is, not very gentle on other roosters. This ole boy is 2 yrs old, loves to come sit on my knee at night while sitting at the fire during the summer. Very people friendly.

    My barred rocks generally start laying around 24 weeks give or take a week or 2. At least that has been the norm around my farm for the last 6 years.

    These are absolutely NOT show quality birds. I breed for size and production. While the 4H kids that I donate eggs too every year do well at shows, (I think they all get a ribbon or two) I would not even attempt to call them Show Quality.
